Great Cruise Read

Recommended Posts

A recent post prompted me to recommend the Patrick O'Brian novels to a fellow member. For anyone who has not seen this thread, I would heartily recommend these nautical novels as first rate reading material for a cruise. They are in chronological sequence starting with "Master & Commander", which was made into a film starring Russell Crowe and plot the career of Jack Aubrey and his surgeon/natural philosopher Stephen Maturin, on a series of ships around the time of the Napoleonic Wars. Don't be put off by the period as they are excellent potboilers with plenty of intrigue. They also happen to be beautifully written. I hope that anyone who tries them enjoys them as much as I did.
