I was thinking of taking Taxi to Atlantis and jsut walking around and sightseeing and going to the Public Beach (RIU)......but I am confused.....can you not jsut walk around unless you pay lots more??? can you see anything w/o paying I guess is what I want to say....is that public beach worth the taxi ride??? is it walkable distance from dock??? (we are walkers)..unless it is like miles...

I am still reading up on lots, but would love more info...thanks all!!!

You can walk around the PUBLIC areas (marina Village, Casino, lobbies, Ghiluly Glass sculptures, and balaconies) of Atlantis and see a small portion of the aquariums for free. In order to enter the grounds, lagoons, bridges etc, you either must be a guest, or purchase a DIGS aquarium pass for $29/$21. (this does not entitle you to the pools/ slides/ beach.)

You can enter the public beach at the walkway next to the RIU. You can rent a chaise and umbrella, and there's a daiquiri shack nearby, but no other amenities (restrooms/dressing rooms/etc.)

You could take a cab directly to Atlantis or the beach, or take the ferry from the dock in Nassau to Paradise Island ($3pp) and walk along the Casino Drive. It's a 5 minute walk to the Marina Village and then another 4-5 minutes to the beach from there. Quite an easy walk.. and lots of folk do it.

The Marina Village, Atlantis and the public beach are all very easy to find.

I know in the past you could get into the Aquarium later in the evening without paying, but I don't know if that is still true, or how late your little ones will be out and about. Also, I believe that the water taxi stops running after a certain time in the evening, so you may want to plan on a regular cab back to the ship. We enjoyed taking the water taxi one way - there is lots to see, and as the previous poster said, the walk isn't bad from there, although at the end of a long day it does seem longer!

The DIGS are accessible for free after 8pm or so.. not guaranteed. If security is in the area.. they will stop you.

The Ferries run from 9am -6pm daily in the spring /summer months. In the winter, they stop at dusk (dark). They run every 30 minutes.
