How is it?

everyone seems to win at somepoint and leave ahead of the game.

is that true?

Are any of the games in our favor?

None of the games in any casino are in the player's favor. The house edge varies from game to game but, in the long run, if you play long enough, no one wins in a casino. The only way to come out ahead is to quit once you've been lucky enough to win.

All that said, I absolutely enjoy gambling, but I view it as part of my entertainment. I set aside a certain amount per day and try my best to stay within my budget. If it ends up taking me several hours to lose the money but I've had a good time making new friends while doing so, no big deal. If I happen to get lucky and end up ahead, all the better. I only get upset when I hit a horrendous bad streak and the money disappears in a matter of minutes. That's not fun no matter how you slice it.

It's called gambling for a reason...

I stick to playing at the tables, usually blackjack. I've always seemed to come out ahead by the end of the cruise, but have good days and bad days. If I'm smart I get up and leave before my bad days get too bad and I won't be able to make a come back. The tables can change quickly with a new dealer or some times just a new player sitting down and stirring things up. My play stays the same and they are pulling out the same cards out of the automatic shuffler/shoe but for some reason the cards just go sour.

On my last cruise on the STAR I became friends with the casino host and she actually pointed out one of the slots that she said hit big frequently to me and encouraged me to play it. I never played the machine but could see it from where I sat at the black jack table and it did hit several times that I noticed. It can't hurt to ask the casino staff what machines they would recommend....

I set aside so much per day and also see it as time well spent and if you win then great and if you don't then it's entertainment....but I have learnt to quit while your ahead, thinking your going to hit it even bigger usually doenst happen....but it's called gambling for a reason and people shouldn't go in thinking they will hit the jack pot and be disappointed if they don't....

Had great luck on the $5 machines in the back corner. So much I have the W-2G's to prove it. Just a note: any jackpot over $1,250 and you are a US citizen, you get W-2G'ed.

Paid for the cruise and all of our expenses.

6 days until I try again:)

Happy Sailing,

Monty

Just came back from the Dawn, where I spent approximately 50-60 hours in the casino. :o Can't say I came out ahead, but my money lasted beautifuly and I was treated like some big roller. (even though I play pennies and nickles!!) Because I spent so much time there, I got free drinks. Using your slot card gets you money off of your shipboard account. Because I was on the Dawn last year and spent a bit of time in the casino, I booked this trip and got the casino rate (18% off brochure). I figure between that rate, my free drinks and my cashback, I more than paid for my gambling. I've found the Dawn's casino to be the best one afloat. But as was mentioned above...don't count on coming home a winner...it doesn't happen that often. But if your money lasts and you have fun...you're still a winner.

Hi Jackie,

When are you going back? We just can't seem to quit now.

We're in 11530, an AB penthouse this time. We're slowing making our way around the Penthouse circuit. We're taking my MIL with us and the extra bedroom and bathroom will be good. Go another good upsell on this one too. I have a feeling it's going to get much harder from now on. With all the info flowing around here. Even people who have NEVER crusied before are looking for upsells now.

We have a WILD bunch on our Roll Call for this cruise. We're called the "Leid-Back Cruisers" We're allwearing Hawaiian Leis to the pier so we can meet up. We've schedule a Sailaway Lei party for the forward hot tub on Deck 13. We have 12 couples going for the Anniversary Dinner at Le Bistro on the same night. Could have some fun there.

Overall, it's gonna be a FUN cruise.

Happy Sailing,

Monty.

Hi Monty,

Your cruise sounds great. It's always a lot of fun when you have a lively crowd going. I'm sure the 'Leid-Back Cruisers' will have a ball and I hope your MIL enjoys it too. I just checked out your room and it looks great, especially for 3 people. Wish we were going too. I see that this is the Dawn's last 10 day cruise before they switch to 7 days. Glad you're getting the extra days in. 7 days just isn't long enough, but I'll take it!!! he he

We can't quit either. I'm looking to book the end of May/early June before the kids get out of school and the prices jump. We looking at Bermuda out of Boston or NY, still not sure which way to go. I sure will miss the balcony if we go out of Boston, but it's so convenient for us. I know what you mean about the upsells, but hopefully they will still offer them to their loyal passengers first.

I know you'll have a GREAT time!!! Will be waiting to hear all about it and see the pics.

Monty,

BTW, DH informed me that he prefers traditional dining. We've always met really nice people at our tables. I miss it too, but I sure do like being able to come and go without the time restrictions, and we met a lot of nice people through CC's on Freestyle.

I know gamblers who gamble on land and at sea (including myself).

I have found that people will tell you when they win ... and you hardly ever hear about the times that they lost their shirts:eek: .

I like to go to the casino with a set amount of $$ to gamble.:)

OK...We're sitting with you and Di, Monty!! I know luck rubs off! :D Wish we could hit the casino in Samana. Playing black jack in the Dominican Republic is one of my fondest vacation memories.

See you next week!!
