MJ123 Posted April 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2006 I am travelling with my mom. We are planning to take a private tour in Florence but not sure how safe private tours are, given high rate of pickpocketing in Italy. We received a quote for 200 Euro at this website: http://www.marcopisa.it/ . Has anyone taken a private tour with this company? Am I overly concerned? Any thoughts and comments? Thanks very much! DougYWG Posted May 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2006 This is probably not the answer you are looking for but anyway... Consider doing it yourself. It's easy and safe. If your mom is fit, then Florence is a great place to just walk about and pop in to anything that takes your fancy, whether it be cafe, church, gelato, church, shops, pizzeria, street market, trattoria, church, souvenirs etc etc. Yes, there are pickpockets but there is absolutely no violence. You won't know your wallet is gone till you get home. With a modicum of care, you'll be fine, don't worry about it. There is always a police presence everywhere. We flew over there just after Xmas and rented an apartment for a week so this had nothing to do with a cruise. Most things you want to see are within ten minutes walk from the Duomo. As is the railway station. It's a no-go area for traffic (other than taxis, buses and emergency vehicles) so I suspect that a guided tour would have you walking anyway. We just loved it, can't wait to go back. Be happy to answer any more specific questions for you.
