GramaFran Posted April 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2006 I have quotes from both Hans at RCL Tours and Alain of Dream Tours, both about the same amount for a tour in Sept from our port Villefranche to Nice, Eze, St. Paul and Monaco (Monte Carlo) Have you any suggestions or recommendations about either tour operator?? We can not do the train/bus as I can not walk any distance so need an independant tour. Francine
LARDJR Posted April 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2006 We rented a car in Cannes, and drove to Eze and St Paul de Vence on our own. If you have trouble walking, Eze is not the place for you. All tours independant or escorted, along with individual cars, must park below the perched town and you must walk up a steep incline (which includes steps) of about a half a mile. Once in this adorable village, it consists of narrow pedestrain walkways that are all steps and more steep inclines. Nothing is on flat ground in Eze. You might want to take a look at my pics before deciding. http://www.worldisround.com/articles/236235/index.html If you can take it slow, it is definatley worth the effort to visit Eze. St Paul de Vence is a little more flat than Eze. This should not be a problem for you.
GramaFran Posted April 27, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted April 27, 2006 LARDJR: Thank you for your photos, they are great. I see what you mean about Eze - I have walked the hill towns of Tuscany taking it very slowly, so I think I could make it into Eze and St. Paul. I just have to rest every once in awhile. Try out all the cafe's We are renting a car in Le Havre to tour Normandy so renting a car in Nice might be an alternative. I will look into it. LARDJR Posted April 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2006 I honestly think a car is the way to go. The roads were really easy to drive and very well marked. Most of them are toll roads, so, make sure you have a bunch of 1.00 Euros handy for the toll booths. A good map is all you need. The locals are extremely friendly and willing to help out in any way. Careful of all of the traffic in and around Nice. It can get kind of congested, so, the outer roads are the best to take. Glad to help in any way. eldercruser Posted April 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2006 We used Dream tours last summer. Jean Marc was our driver and he did a great job. He was waiting for us as we disembarked from the tender in Monte Carlo and dropped us off just in time to catch the next to last tender at the end of the day. We highly recommend Dream Tours. GramaFran Posted April 28, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks to all - We just booked with Dream tours and they understand our needs (my walking) and the stops we want to make. After reading all the comments about Hans and his fake posting we changed our minds and cancelled his tour. Francine

LadyoftheLake Posted May 2, 2006 #10 Share Posted May 2, 2006 We have used Dream Tours with Alain and loved Jean Marc. He was a wonderful tour guide and we enjoyed him. He took us to so many places and made sure we knew what to do and where to go and saved us tons of walking up and down hills. We can't say enough good things about Jean Marc with www.Dream-tours.com
Seabee Posted May 2, 2006 #11 Share Posted May 2, 2006 We are renting a car in Le Havre to tour Normandy so renting a car in Nice might be an alternative. I will look into it. Francine Fran...be very careful when renting a car in LeHavre. We did this and drove to Normandy. It was easy and a good day. However, someone broke into our car and stole a backpack. When we finally found the gendarme to report the break in, we were told that it happens all the time at the tourist stops in Normandy. The rental cars are particular targets...they have a sticker on them whihc indicates they are rentals. Just be careful and leave nothing in the car that you may want to have when you return. GramaFran Posted May 2, 2006 Author #12 Share Posted May 2, 2006 SeaBee: We are from Hawaii and know from experience about leaving things in the car at the beaches there. We take everything out of the car when we tour the sites. So thank you for the warning we will be extra careful in Normandy. Francine
