joedi Posted April 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2006 Eight of us are headed off in early June, on Volendam, for Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay and Ketchikan. Our preference on other cruises has been to book independent tours in advance, or set off on our own, but we've never been to Alaska. We'd be appreciative of suggestions. Are any of the Volendam's excursions must-dos?
fsdj1097 Posted April 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2006 We visited Alaska last year and are going back again this year. I would recommend you posting this same question on the Alaska boards. We booked independent tours based on recommendations from the Alaska boards. A couple of posters that helped us plan our excursion from that board are Yukon and Budget Queen. We booked a whale watch tour in Juneau through Orca Enterprises. They are great to deal with and will go the extra mile to accomodate you. In Skagway, the White Pass & Yukon Railway is a great tour and is the one tour that you can book through the cruise line. We booked a fishing trip in Ketchikan using Capt. Dan Leathers. His website is http://www.northpacificcharters.com. I would whole heartedly recommend Capt. Dan if fishing interests you. Again, go to the Alaska boards and take time to read others posts. You'll learn alot and be able to cruise vicariously through others until it's your turn. Have a great trip!
