I'm cruising May 13th on the Caribbean Princess...our first cruise! Thanks, We went on the CB the first week in april. Club Fusion had Princess POP STAR every night. Some nights they were for kids only 13-17 and other nights they were for adults...they have qualifying rounds, then the two final days of the cruise they have the teen final and then the adult final. Fuzzzy Posted May 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2006 As Simon would say. It was dreadful. It's like karoake night on a cruise ship. :D

Fuzzzy Posted May 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2006 As Randy would say. Dog, what was that? You were a little pitchy and you lost the words half way through. I'm not feeling it.
F5Loar Posted May 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2006 Does this mean they no longer have the guest talent show night? Has this taken the place of it?
Lynda90 Posted May 1, 2006 #7 Share Posted May 1, 2006 On the Sapphire they had Princess Idol each night. It was all adults for the sailing I was on. The winners from each night were in the finals for the last night. Every table had a vote. Some of the talent was very good and some just did not make it their own or anyone elses.:D I thought it was a lot of fun. I think it started at 11:30 PM. This has replaced the talent show. DanJ Posted May 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 1, 2006 Hey Fuzzy, Simon would be right. It IS karaoke LOL. They used to call it Princess Idol, but changed the name to Princess Pop Stars because the Idol people didn't want Idol used. They did it every night and you picked your songs from the karaoke books. The Amazing Pepe Ziegler Posted May 1, 2006 #11 Share Posted May 1, 2006 As was stated earlier it's now called Princess pop star. On our week long cruise I believe there were three qualifying nights where ballots are left on the tables for people to vote in 3 different categories. Vocal performance, stage presence, and overall pop-star quality. They allowed the first 10 people who signed up each night to perform. From each of these three nights there are 3 finalists. The CD staff picks another 3 who performed but didn't win whom they feel should be in the finals. On the last night the 6 contestants perform and they have a panel just like on American Idol who more than anything just makes jokes. They have 100 ballots in the audience and miraculously in 3 minutes the 3 panelists manage to collect these 100 ballots, tally up each of the 3 categories( times 6), then find who out of the 6 contestants won. All done by hand. (no hanging chads here). On our cruise the person who won sang very well, had no stage presence due to sitting in a stool the whole performance, and was in his mid to late 50's. Some pop star. But it turns out he was a high roller in the casino, so I guess they wanted him coming back for more. Yes, it's rigged!! And they don't even try to hide that fact. The two girls who were by far the best and had to have gotten the most votes somehow didn't win. Instead, a boring middle aged man did. Of course who knows what the final votes would have been since no one even bothered to count them. It was fun to watch the whole competition and see the performers, but anyone who expects it to be above board is going to be very, very dissapointed in the end. Especially the poor performers who give great performances and loose out to a high roller. It actually put a sour taste on the whole week by so many feeling sorry for those who actually deserved to be in a true competition.
Hornet Posted May 1, 2006 #12 Share Posted May 1, 2006 One of our friends from our CC group made the finals on our last cruise (Island Princess). She was told by the assistant CD who was running the competition - that they don't necessarily pick the best singer. They are really looking for the best entertainers - some have excellent voices - some are just fun to watch - some really get the audience involved - they also want to hear a song that really interests the audience. We really enjoyed the competitions. They didn't have a teen Pop Star that I knew of - but they did have a talent show for all ages. This was a two week cruise. We really enjoyed the competitions. They didn't have a teen Pop Star that I knew of - but they did have a talent show for all ages. This was a two week cruise. This was most certainly not the case on our cruise. Maybe it's done differently on different cruises. The person they picked on ours was probably 5th out of 6 in stage presence and actually being entertaining. He was probably 3rd or 4th in singing talent. There were two ladies who were very entertaining, sang great, and had wonderful stage presence and were head and shoulders above anyone else. Totally in their own league. But the real point here was that they led everyone to believe that their votes were goign to be the deciding factor when they didn't even hide the fact that they didn't possibly have enough time to count the votes. The competitions leading up to the last night were a lot of of fun, as was the final night. The downer was realizing that our votes didn't matter and all that mattered was the cruise line sucking up to the one person in the competition who dropped a lot of cash while on the cruise. The allmighty dollar in action. I just bring this up so people who truly are great entertainers don't enter the competition thinking that talent is what is going to decide the ultimate winner. If they go into it knowing this up front, they won't be so dissapointed if their cruise has the same process. Just look at it as a telent show and forget the voting if they aren't even goign to count them.

letsboard Posted May 1, 2006 #15 Share Posted May 1, 2006 I see you have responses to your Princess pop star question, but I wanted to let you know the Caribbean Princess is the most beautiful ship, We loved it and will go on it again for sure. Even with so...many people there is plenty of room. Have fun.
Simru12 Posted May 1, 2006 #16 Share Posted May 1, 2006 I just got off the Golden on Saturday. I actually participated (didn't get into the finals thanks to one mediocre guy that had 40 friends tilt the scales for him). They had 10 people each on the Third and Fifth nites, chose three finalists each nite, with the finals on the last nite. The nite I sang, I would say 8 out of the 10 were VERY good. Did't hear the second set though.

On the Dawn Princess, they did have 3 heats and the karoke singers were told ( no voting....don't know how they decided ) that they would be notified if they made it to the finals. Didn't see the finals so can't comment on how that was handled. There was still a talent show on the last night of the 10 day cruise.

Nliedel Posted May 2, 2006 #25 Share Posted May 2, 2006 Did you by any chance attend the University of Michigan School of Music? Just curious since you live in Ann Arbor. GO BLUE! :) Nope. My grades in Hish School stank. EMU, Washtenaw Community College and a small Great Books school in another state. I love U of M, now that I am further from the Big House. I used to run by the stadium and game day stank. I'm further out now and MUCH happier. Okay, I need to know who to pay off on the Crown. Is it the people watching or the staff? I am not buying drinks for the whole ship ya know. :D
