Best way to book large family in cabins??

Recommended Posts

We are thinking of a Carnival cruise on the Legend or Norwegian Dawn from New York and am wondering what is best way to book a family--two adults and four kids ranging from 8-17? Would it best to get one mini suite and one inside across the hall? Most cost effective but want to get a nice balcony size as well? I think Princess has the Crown from New York so that is one other choice I think.

I'm assuming your talking about for this summer. In addition to the Norwegian Dawn and the Carnival Legend, you have the Crown Princess and I believe the NCL Spirit. Also across the harbor in New Jersey, you also have the choice of Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas.

My suggestion is to call a Travel Agent and price different options.

On the Legend, you can get a balcony for 4, so you might do the 2 adults and 2 youngest children with the older kids across the hall in an inside. You'll get 3rd and 4th person rates for whichever cabin you go with 4 people in though so it might be cheaper to book the 4 in the inside cabin.

On the Dawn, you can't get a balcony for 4 - you could do a suite with 4,but would still have to get another cabin for the remaining 2 in your party.

Cost wise (especially if you want the balcony) I the Legend is the better buy! We have done 4 in balcony on the Legend (boys 15 & 17) and always had plenty of room!
