filamy Posted May 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2006 We will be on the Valor going to W. Caribbean in July. I have read on several posts of ships not being able to dock at Costa Maya due to rough water. Does anyone know if this is generally typical of certain times of the year or if it’s just luck all year long? Also, we are hoping to go to the ruins and I’m concerned of reserving through a private company instead of through Carnival. This will be our first cruise and I am just trying to cover all the bases. Any and all comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Check out the Costa Maya forum, and you'll find plenty of info! Good luck!!
bills blasters Posted May 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2006 We did costa maya in Feb. We booked through a private tour company to do the ruins. We did not have to put down a deposit, so if the ship would not have been able to dock, we would not have been out anything. I would definately recomend a private tour above carnivals. If you are interested, I can give you their names.

filamy Posted May 9, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted May 9, 2006 Thanks all for the information. We are sailing July 9th. My wife suprised me and made reservations last night with Island Marketing for the ruin tour. The deposit will be refunded if the ship is not able to dock. Again Thanks for the input. Eliot Ness Posted May 12, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2006 how do you book an excursion not though carnival? im new to this and cant findwere it tells you how? thanks for any helpUsually there will be a website where you have a link to reserve a tour. Most tours don't require advance payment until you arrive, so if the ship is delayed or can't dock or tender (usually because of weather) you aren't out any money. One tour we booked in Grand Cayman had us fax (secure line) a CC# to reserve the tour, but will not charge if the ship is delayed or weather won't permit us to tender in. If there is a specific tour you are interested let me know and I (or another member) might have a link for that website. Usually if you read the reviews here the link is mentioned in one of the posts (but not always). John
