candlelady Posted May 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2006  I've heard that the coffee on cruise ships is not great....so do they serve hot chocolate? We'll be on Radiance of the Seas. THIS BOARD IS GREAT!!!
tapia Posted May 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2006 Glad you like the board--I'm an ADDICT already!!!!! Yes, they do serve hot chocolate, but on most lines you have to pay for it. Usually, I just pay for what I want, but on this occassion, I'll be bringing some packs with me & then just getting hot water....... I'm not positive if Radiance of the Seas has you pay or not--perhaps someone else can answer?
Yukon Posted May 10, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 10, 2006 Yes, you do pay for hot chocolate on the Radiance :(
tapia Posted May 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2006 Yes, you do pay for hot chocolate on the Radiance :( In that case, it's the same as the other lines. Since I'm doing a land tour previous to the cruise, I'll already have my packets of hot chocolate--so, I'll be using my leftovers on this portion. candlelady Posted May 10, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted May 10, 2006 If you have to pay for it.....would it be included in the "soda" card?
Yukon Posted May 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2006 No, they treat it in the same way as a latte...

RushF1 Posted May 10, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 10, 2006 If the Radiance has a similar set-up to the Star, then they'd serve it in the coffee bar (maybe it's also the Java Cafe as well?) in the main atrium. Also, the 24-hour cafe shouldn't be that far away, in case you'd want to get another type of drink that isn't caffeine-based. IIRC, it was around $2.50 or so for one. As someone who isn't the biggest coffee fan (I'd rather have the hot chocolate, too), maybe the bring-your-own isn't such a bad idea. sea_u_onboard Posted May 10, 2006 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2006 What about through room service? Or in the dining room?
Yukon Posted May 10, 2006 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2006 Where you get it doesn't change the cost.
Kylie Posted May 10, 2006 #11 Share Posted May 10, 2006 Since I'm not a coffee drinker I always order hot chocolate after my meals and I have never been charged. Also, hot chocolate is usually available for breakfast. I hope that is the case on the Serenade this spring!
chismrules Posted May 10, 2006 #12 Share Posted May 10, 2006 I normally got hot tea or hot coco on the cruise in the cafateria and it never cost anything. First time to Alaska on the Nor. Star. So is it because it is an Alaska cruise? And if they do charge, is the hot water in the caf. Thanks everyone.
telecruiser Posted May 10, 2006 #13 Share Posted May 10, 2006 We brought lots of our own packets. Just grab a mug of hot water at the free coffee/tea service area and go find a cozy seat. Steve
grannynanny Posted May 11, 2006 #14 Share Posted May 11, 2006 is free, there are always packets in a basket somewhere near the drinks. Have been on over 20 crusies, and as far as I can remember, all had the hot chocolate packets. Just add the hot water. Nancy
dw64 Posted May 13, 2006 #15 Share Posted May 13, 2006 In Alaska, there's a charge for Hot Chocolate. It's free in the dining room. It's free in the carribbean. Yes, there's baskets. But no baskets of Hot Chocolate in Alaska. It's another way for the cruise lines to make a few bucks. So adjust, throw a few packets in the suitcase, & save a few bucks. sea_u_onboard Posted May 13, 2006 #16 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I think it depends on the cruiselines. Others who have done the Carnival Spirit in ALASKA have said it is free through room service and the dining room.
Gingee Posted May 14, 2006 #17 Share Posted May 14, 2006 Any good hot chocolate types that are good with hot water? I usually put chocolate syrup in my milk but I am looking for something good. Thanks
