Posted this over on Baltic Ports, but thought it needed to be here also.

We are on the Oceana Insignia on July 10 and have researched each port and felt the following would be of interest to other Northern Europe / Baltic Cruisers who want to know about where their ship will dock. Dock are Dover, Bruge (Zeeburgge), Amsterdam, Warnemunde (Berlin), Copenhagen, Gdansk, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, and Stockholm.

1. Dover - http://www.doverport.co.uk/asp/cruisestemplate.asp?skey=3&ckey=3 is where information below on port found. Dover's cruise berths are positioned at the port's Western Docks. Berthing specifications for Terminals 1 and 2 are: Terminal 1: Fully flexible check-in, with up to 12 check-in positions Lounge with 450 seating capacity 1320 sq.m. baggage floor Terminal 2: Fully flexible check-in, with up to 28 check-in positions on mezzanine floor, plus up to 40 on baggage floor. Lounge with 700 seating capacity and 2035 sq.m. baggage handling area below.

2. Bruge – Zeebrugge, Belgium – http://www.zeebruggeport.be/ - is site where following found. Terminals - The port area is subdivided into several concessions. The port of Bruges-Zeebrugge is divided into 3 areas: the Outer port, the Inner Port and the Inner port Bruges. In Zeebrugge cruise ships (Insignia 7/11) moor at the Leopold II dam or in the Albert II dock, both located in the western outer port, about 2 kms from the train station. Taxi’s and shuttle buses are permanently available at quay side.

3. Amsterdam, NetherlandsFound following at http://www.portofamsterdam.com/smartsite1691.dws - Insignia is the only cruise ship in port on 7/12. The Port of Amsterdam consists of several harbour basins. De Ruijterkade and Oostelijke Handelskade - The berths in this area are mainly used for passenger shipping.

Passenger Terminal Amsterdam - Cruise ships dock at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam from where visitors can easily walk to the centre. The terminal has a large reception hall, extensive catering and shopping facilities and tourist information office. The Central Station and bus terminal, with its arrival and departure hall for coaches, means easy links for travellers across the country. There are many mooring facilities for touring boats and inland cruise operations. The terminal also hosts international events and exhibitions. The location of the terminal is a unique one: right in the heart of Amsterdam’s bustling center. There is a parking lot for 400 cars, located directly under the building. Taxi ranks, coach parking and several stops for public transportation can be found outside. Amsterdam Centraal, the railway station, is less than 500 m (half a mile) away and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is just a 20 minutes drive. Even all this can get better. PTA is situated on the southern bank of the river IJ.

4. Berlin (Warnemunde), GermanyFound following at http://www.rostock-port.de/Warnemuende_Cruise_Center.69+B6Jkw9MQ__.0.html There are 3 ship in port on 7/14 including Insignia and Regatta

Warnemünde Cruise Center - The new cruise terminal building at the Warnemünde passenger quay officially opened on 01 May 2005. The two-story steel and glass terminal building possesses a total area of 3191 square meters. The ground floor comprises the 1628 m² hall and the additional 653 m² multifunction and clearance rooms are used for customs and by the Federal Border Guard. A furnished waiting area of 350 m² is located on the gallery floor of the building which can be accessed form the large capacity hall on the ground floor and provides 250 seats. There are seven entrances and exits each on the landside and the seaside of the building. Information systems will be installed in the large capacity hall providing cruise passengers with an initial orientation to Warnemünde, Rostock and the surrounding areas. The Warnemünde Cruise Center offers cruise ship passengers service of the highest quality and can accommodate passenger change-overs of up to 2500 people per day. With the construction of the new Cruise Center building, the port of Rostock offers cruise ship operators ideal conditions for North Sea and Baltic Sea cruises. The train station is located in the direct vicinity of the Cruise Terminal. No other German passenger harbour possesses such a direct rail connection. The hinterland link is also one of the great advantages of the Warnemünde harbour. Through the short Warnowtunnel it is just four kilometers from the German Autobahn network. The trip to Berlin takes about 2 hours by train or bus.

5. Copenhagen, Denmark - All information found on http://www.cruisecopenhagen.com/index.html - There will be several cruise ships in port on July 15. Insignia will be in Quay no C177. According to http://www.cmport.com/CMP/uk/uk_docs.nsf Insignia will be using Toldboden on July 15 which is closer to town. Ships usually dock at either the Langelinie Pier or the Freeport Terminal. Langelinie is about a 30-minute walk to the city center (or a short taxi, bus or train ride). Freeport is about a 60-minute walk to the city center.

How do I find a listing of cruise ship arrivals in Copenhagen? - Click here for information on arrivals dates, times, and arrival terminals (also searchable by ship name and date). Quay numbers beginning with "1" represent Langelinie Pier. Quay numbers beginning with "2" represent Freeport Terminal.

Where is Copenhagen's "Cruise Lounge" located? - The Cruise Lounge is located midway along the pedestrian street, Strøget, situated at the square Amager Torv (you'll know you're there when you see the crane fountain). Show the wait staff proof that you're a cruise passenger (your boarding card, for example) for complimentary coffee or tea.

6. Gdansk, PolandWhen looking at the Gdynia sight, could not find Insignia. http://www.port.gdynia.pl/a_index.php

Looking at Gdansk site as follows http://www.polfracht.pl/polfracht/psal/localinf/gda/portgda.htm - There is a vidio clip of Oceana Regatta docking in Gdansk at http://www.portgdansk.pl/events/333/regatta.wmv so assume that Insigina will dock the same way on July 16. Accordintto the Gdansk site video - http://www.portgdansk.pl/index.php?id=sights&lg=en – cruise ships doc in either Oliwskie Away or Westerplatte Termianl. It is 6 KM to city center.

7. Helsinki, FinlandFollowing port information found at http://www.portofhelsinki.fi/default.asp?docId=12583 Insignia on July 18 is at EKL which is at KATAJANOKKA QUAY/LP 6 - The Katajanokka Terminal - The Katajanokka Terminal is located at Katajanokka. It has a regular ferry connection to Stockholm and Tallinn. The terminal has a restaurant, kiosk, and a money exchange.

8. St. Petersburg, Russiahttp://www.seaport.spb.ru/ - is site, but was blocked. Found this at http://www.barwil.com/wbch3.exe?p=400328 - Port description of St. Petersburg - SJC "Sea port of St. Petersburg" is the biggest transport hub in the North West of Russia. The port is located on the islands of Neva River delta in the east part of Baltic Sea and allows to decrease the transport, transit and other expenses. The port is connected to the sea with the Sea Channel by length of 27 nautical miles. Insignia is here July 19-21.

The Old City Harbour - one of the harbours administered by the Port of Tallinn Authority, is located in the very heart of Tallinn. Its 4 terminals serve passenger ferry boats and cruise vessels, during summer season also fast speed vessels. Number of quays - Old City Harbour: 23 (5 for cruise vessels)

10. Stockholm, Sweden Found cruise ship information at this site: http://www.stockholmcruise.com/templates/startpage_visitors____1344.aspx http://www.stockholmcruise.com/upload/443/Expected_cruisecalls_2006.pdf is a pdf download and has all info for the 2006 season including docks. Frihamnen is a 15 minute taxi ride away. According to this site Frihamnen 650 is where Insigina on July 23-24 will dock. Appears this is where all “turnaround” ships dock

  • 2 weeks later...

We did the Baltic last year on Regatta - a great cruise.

I would agree that the post info for the most part is accurate - but at Zeebrugge (sp) there were no taxis nor shuttle buses. As luck would have it, my tour was cancelled (don't recall reason), and I stayed on board, as I was not up to hiking from the far end of the terminal to the highway.

Warnemunde and Amsterdam were great - just a short walk to either the rail station at the former, and a streetcar line at the latter.
