BOSTON -- The Fourth of July. The Charles River Esplanade. The Boston Pops.

For decades, they've gone together like peas in a pod. But things could change in the future.

Organizers of the annual concert and fireworks display say the reconstruction of Storrow Drive may force the event to relocate in 2008. The Boston Globe reports that tentative plans have already been drawn up to move the party from the Esplanade to Joe Moakley Park in South Boston.

While the plan is being labeled as "temporary," some officials believe once the celebration moves, it will never return to the banks of the Charles River.

Each Fourth of July, about 500,000 people gather to watch the Boston Pops perform in the Hatch Shell, and fireworks light up the night skies.

I think you'll just have to wait some more. I noticed that for 2007 the QM2 is NOT doing the Canada/New England run over the Independence Day holiday but rather a 4 day trip down to the Bahamas. So who knows at this point where the ship will be in 2008 at that time. Hopefully it will return because I - likely one in the minority - prefer to do a fast jaunt out of the northeast to Canada/New England over a Bahamas run. Only time will tell.
