HELLO ALL!

Just wanted to write a quick message to say hello! We are new to the forum so if anyone has got any advice or good stuff for us to look at then dont hold back!

We have cruised with Cunard before so are old pro's to the cruising game! In June we are going on the Norweigan Fjords (Land of the Midnight Sun 16th June)...so if anyone else is going on then drop us a line! If anyone has already been and can tell us to go do something particularly amazing then feel free! All input will be appreciated!

Anything anyone wants to know then all you have to do is ask! Advice will be welcomed and given where requeseted...well to the best of our ability!

Thanks...hopefully speak to some of u cunard cruisers soon!

Bon Voyage :)

Not sure if this advice is warranted or not.

I was north of the Artic Circle last year. Oddly enough, given the ship was one of the Hurtigruten ships, the midnight sun leaked into the room far too much.

I'm seriously thinking of taking some sort of eye shade thingamy this year, as I find it difficult to get to sleep in the light.

Unless you are in an inside cabin, this may be relevant!

Dear MayMayMay,

We had the opportunity to do this exact voyage many years ago and really enjoyed it. We did it on the QE2.

We cruised from Southampton to Bergen and then to the various Norweigan Fjords and back to Southampton. One of our stops were to the very top where we took a bus tour to the farthers point tourist can go. We anchored about 10PM and proceed to the location just before Midnight. We visited the Cave Bar and also the famous Compass Point that everyone took pictures at. At that moment, we saw the Sun come down halfway in the sky as if it was going to set and surprised us in a minute it started to rise again. Image, never setting but re-rising. WOW.

As Kindlychap mentioned, it was interesting to deal with the continuous sunshine all day long. We noticed it a day or two on our way from Southampton. We did have to block our cabin window to get some sleep. We also noticed that the next morning after we were at the top, no one came to breakfast because of being up late and also the sunlight. It took 2-3 days to lose this sensation and start to re-adapt. But our internal clocks were really off.

You will love the trip and we couldn't get enough video of the trip.

Regards,

:) ESLO

One of the things I remember about the midnight sun is being on deck at 4-00 am and the sun still shining. In our photographs it looks as though it was twilight, but that was just caused by the sun being so bright. You should try and go out on deck then, remember that it will be cold - take a warm coat with you.

We too have 'done' the Midnight Sun cruise.I found it quite difficult at first to sleep, with the bright sunshine during the night. As it rained and the wind gusted all day, on most days everything seemed back to front. The best cure is to go into the bar of your choice and have a few wonderful cocktails, funny that seemed to help. The other problem you might have is when you show friends your photos taken at midnight ,they may ask why you are so dressed up during the daytime!!As they did us.

Have a wonderful time.

Regards Kathie

I was on Saga Cruises in June and have discussed the trip at length in Cruise Critic "Other Cruises" section. Polar bears, edge of the North Pole icepack, the whole magilla, if you want to take a peek.

You will love Norway and Far North.
