Diamond Princess balcony?

I was hoping someone could explain the balcony situation on the Diamond Princess. I have heard that you can see your neighbors from your balcony. Is this true? If so, is the balcony really worth it? The other times that we have had a balcony, it has been private. Any remarks would be helpful prior to booking.

The balconies on Aloha, Baja and Mini-suite balconies on Emerald deck are completely covered. That is, the floor of the balcony above them is the roof of their balcony. The balconies on Caribe are half covered and half open to the view from above. They are also larger than other balconies. The balconies for the mini-suites on Dolphin deck are totally open to views from above. With all balconies you can see your neighbor to the right or left IFyou lean out over the rail and look around the partition between balconies.

Since booking our first balcony, we always book a cabin with one now. Not only do you have some private (or simi-private) space to sit out and watch the world go by, it also makes your cabin feel larger. It's a nice place to sit and have a drink, eat breakfast or just soak up some sun with a good book. That said, you may not want a balcony if you are on a very port intensive cruise or cruising in colder weather. Is it worth it? That's really a personal decision based on your style of cruising and priorities.
