tahitisweetie Posted June 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2006 Has anyone cashed traveler's checks on the casino on the TP? was there a charge--we would want US money in return for US trav. checks (to use at casino) wondering if they charged a fee-- any info will be appreciated- tahitisweetie
tuknshak Posted June 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2006 Travlers checks from what I have read here and experienced with our trip on the TP in May is they aren't really needed. The casino gives out US dollars to play with and that gets charged to your stateroom. You can call and ask Princess if the cashier on boards takes TC (I am sure they do) but we found plastic to be the easist form of money during our whole trip (ona nd off the TP). We only brought about $300 cash with us and we were fine. Do check with any outside tour companies you book with (ie Bruno or Marc) becuase they sometimes except only cash. We were worried about the whole exchange/not exchange debate and now after going I will have to agree with those people who said not to exchange. 90% of people we interacted with off the ship took US and mostly gave us a 1 to 1 exchange rate. When we did exchange a $100 bill for the cabs around Moorea post-cruise we didn't get a very good exchange rate. Everything on the boat is US dollars. We also did not get charged the 3% fee some people mentioned on the boards for paying our cruise tab with a credit card.
tomnirene Posted June 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2006 And where is cash available off the ship? Easy to find an ATM or...? Thanks.
tahitisweetie Posted June 10, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted June 10, 2006 if we just get the cash put on our cabin bill, isn't tht like a cash advance and wouldn't we get charged 3%? franco
Kissara22 Posted June 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2006 While on the TP in November, ..we would exchange our travelers checks at the pursers desk for either francs or USD. We had no problem doing this and no service fee. The ship is so quaint and relaxed you'll have no problem with lines whatsoever. Happy Cruising!! tuknshak Posted June 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2006 I did not see any ATMs on the TP when we were there last month. The purser desk (deck 4 in front the main stairs) can help you with any banking needs. All the places on the boat will only take your cruise card including the shops and casino. calikak Posted June 14, 2006 #8 Share Posted June 14, 2006 There is no ATM on the ship. You can get a cash advance from the purser's desk (they charge it to your stateroom) but they charge a 3% fee. We used an ATM in Raiatea to get francs and that worked fine--I think it was a Bank of Tahiti branch but it could have been Bank of Polynesia, I get them mixed up. When you get off the ship, you walk through a shopping area to the street and then turn left, and the ATM is most of the way down that block on the far side of the street. We didn't use ATMs in the other ports so I can't really help with that, sorry!
