Bus Stops in Nice & Monaco

Recommended Posts

I'm visiting Villefranche on the RC Voyager of the Seas next month and have a few questions regarding the bus from this port to Monaco & Nice.

1) Which bus stop to get off when the TAM line#100 get into Nice? Should I get off earlier than the end (Nice Gare routiere) if I wanted to be near the waterfront of La Promenade des Anglais? Which stop is that?

2) Which bus stop to get off when the same bus get into Monaco if I want to be near the "Rock" (Palais, Cathedral)? Would this be the Place d'Armes?

3) If I get off the Casino stop in Monaco/Monte Carlo, can I catch a local bus to get to Monaco-ville ("Rock)? or vice versa?

4) I've heard that there is a one-day bus pass allowing you unlimited rides costing 4 Euros/pp. Can you buy this on the bus? Will this work only on the TAM or can you use this in Nice and Monaco for the local buses? I assume not, but just want to make sure.

Thanks for any help.

To get to the Promenade Anglais stay on the bus to Gare Routiere in Nice. This is the central bus station. after getting off the bus turn left and cross the street, through the conctruction work, and turn down any of the narrow streets though the market and you can't fail to reach the Promenade.

In Monaco you can walk from the casino to the Palace although it is about a half hour walk first down then up hill again. One of the best places to get off in Mobanco is the first stop after the bus passes along the harbour. This stop is very close to the casino and also gives a view across the harbour to the palace on the top of the hill.

The 4 euro ticket is not applicable between Nice and Monaco, it is just for a local region around Nice.

I hope this helps.

You need to walk upwards from where you disembak in VF to Octroi. The bus on one side of the road goes to Monaco and on the other side to Nice.

The best stop for the PDA is to get off at the Port. It's a nice walk past all the boats and a hundred yards to the start of the prom - and a particularly nice spot to start it as Nice is in front and below you. To the left is St-Jean - the right thw whole coast. Getting off at the bus station forces you to struggle through the old town which can be slow and congested - particuarly if you don't know the short cuts and thenforces you through the market before placing you in the center of the Prom and needing to decide whether to go left or right. The port is bar far the best stop to get off.

The fare info is also incomplete. It's only about 3 euros between Monaco and Nice. The area works on a fixed flat fare system.

Thank you for the info Jeff.

I've read somewhere (can't remember exactly) that you can get a return trip for free if you show the bus driver your original tickets. Here's the excerpt:

On the 100 TAM line Nice to Menton (and the TAM 111 to St Jean Cap Ferrat) there's no need to buy a return ticket because this journey is FREE. You must hang onto your ticket that you bought on the trip out, then show it to the driver when boarding the bus to come back to Nice, the driver will tear the ticket and that's it..

ONLY applies to the TAM 100 and 111, all other bus routes you pay each way. Also it is only a free return on the same day, from the same price-zone area ie a if you go to Villefranche from Nice, you must return to Nice from Villefranche though not necessarily from the same stop in Villefranche to the same stop in Nice.

Do you know if this is true?

It use to be true - but hasn't been for two or three years. If my memory serves me it's 2euros 30 flat fare. But for some bizarre reason they still ask you where you are getting off and print it on the ticket. Those cunning folks ...........

isn't true that once you get off the bus in Monaco, that you can take Bus #2 up to the Palais rather than walking uphill? And then you just take Bus #1 from the Palais back to the train/bus terminal?
