phinfan63 Posted June 29, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2004 The lady at the post office said it was taking two months to process but I applied for my passport on June 5th and received it yesterday. So , 3 - 4 weeks seems to be the average.
shookdm Posted June 29, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2004 You can go the regular route and get it via the post office. Just depends on the system then. If you are in a hurry, you can pay some agencies extra money and they will get you the passport in as little as a week - sometimes less. But, the shorter the time frame, the more money it takes! They basically send someone (usually to the national passport center) to wait in line.
mtd716 Posted June 29, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Here is a link to official government passport info. http://travel.state.gov/passport_services.html They say to allow at least 6 weeks. Some people get them sooner, but summer is the busy time for processing passport applications. You can pay extra for expedited service and overnight delivery, and you will have it within 2 weeks. We did that for my husband since his passport expired earlier this year. It was just under 6 six weeks until our sail date when we booked, so we didn't take any chances with the renewal. He got it back in about a week and a half using expedited service. This was just regular expedited services following the instructions provided at the link above. There are some 3rd party agencies that claim to get them back even faster, for an additional fee. I don't know if they are legit or not. I don't know anyone who has gone that route. mirrajay Posted June 29, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2004 It took me the full 6 weeks...I would allow as much time as you possibly can. You never know when it comes to the government :)
