Luau tickets

Is it best to get the excursion tickets through the ship, or buy them someplace else for a luau?

Does any one have any favorites resturants on any of the islands?

I heard the Choc & Coffee on Maui is really nice, need to book through the ship?

We went to Ruth's Chris while we were there last time and it was excellent. A little on the pricey side but well worth it. Also, be sure you do the Old Lahaina Luau and book early because they sale out fast!! We have only tried one other place and it did not even come close to the Old Lahaina Luau.

We tend to go back to the Big Island again and again because fo family and friends. There is a killer Thai restaurant in Volcano Village just outside the Volcano National Park. We like to alternate there with the Kilauea Lodge. It's hard to beat Ken's Pancake House for breakfast and local watching though. On the Kona side, we like the Kona Inn for fresh fesh and CAnoe House for the apps, but Brown's can't be beat on any level.

For Oahu, we like the Maple Garden for Chinese, Kincaid's for everything else, except breakfast at Sam Choy Breakfast, Lunch and Crab. if you really want to blow the budget, check out Le Mer.

have a wonderful cruise,

Charlie

We found "Tom Barefoot Tours" on the internet and they made our reservations for the Old Lahaina Luau. This was Sept 2003. They have an office right in Lahaina. As I remember I made the inquiry over the internet and within minutes received a phone call from Hawaii from them. They were so nice and got us great seats right up in front of the stage. That is one event they are not allowed to discount, and it is on the high side, but we loved it. It always fills up so don't wait. Just do it. Also, if you are not afraid of a little walk, we did manage fine walking from the tender dock to the luau and back. Tom Barefoot also has some other nice tours.

Interesting. A few weeks ago we were in Lahaina and were the only ship there. We noticed that a lot of the tours were being sold at various places in town for a fraction of the usual price. I think because we were the only ship and they were trying to fill the tours. We had taken the Hawaiian Tropical Plantation/ Ioa Valley tour (through the ship) and it was a massive rip-off. The Valley was beautiful. The tropical plantation was just a long wait for a short tram ride through a farm and hours of time wasted in the gift-shops (naturally.) Don't waste your money on that one.
