oceanlov1 Posted June 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2006 We will be sailing on the Maasdam and will be in Halifax and Charlottetown looking for places to eat outstanding lobster. Does anyone have any suggestions? We will be eating lunch at these different restaurants. Another stop will be in Bar Harbor.........any suggestions for that town? Looking forward to the replies. We will be walking around in town. Thanks
Afloat Posted June 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2006 We cruised to Canada and New England on the Golden Princess last September. In Halifax we had lunch at Murphys on the Water (www.murphysonthewater.com). Delicious lobster rolls. They are a short and very pleasant walk down the boardwalk from the ship pier. In Bar Harbor we ate lunch at the West Street Cafe (www.weststreetcafe.com). Excellent lobster and blueberry pie. It was crowded but they served very efficiently and we had time after lunch to do some shopping. There is also an ice cream parlor in Bar Harbor that serves lobster ice cream. We tried it but didn't care for it. Hope you have a great cruise.
red knight Posted June 20, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2006 In Halifax go to Privateers Wharf. There is a tiny restaurant there that serves very fabulously fresh tasty lobster for cheap!
grannynurse Posted July 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2006 There is a HAL tour to Cadillac mountain that includes the most wonderful lobster bake. Also don't miss the tourmaline shop (Maine's state stone) on Main St not too far from the harbor. It's calles Jack's. There is a restaurant near the tender pier (to the left on the waterfront as you're walking up to town) that serves the best chowder. You'll love Maasdam, she's my husband's favorite HAL ship. cruzzza Posted July 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2006 In Halifax, we ate at the Waterfront Warehouse. Cheap lobster for lunch that was very good, served with soup of the day (ours was excellent corn chowder), a fancy salad, and potato salad or slaw if I remember right. It was less crowded than Murphys and a little fancier. Also cheaper!
Host Caroline Posted July 11, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 11, 2006 :) Another vote for Murphy's in Halifax
lovemylab Posted July 15, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2006 The Halifax waterfront is full of restaurants that serve local, fresh lobster. I can't think of any bad ones - they basically all serve the same thing (boiled lobster with butter, potato salad, chowder) and the prices are comparable. Most also have their menu's posted outside. nosmothj Posted July 20, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2006 I am not sure what tours they offer but fishermans warf in Rustico is a great resturaunt for all seafood. It is about 20 minutes from Charlottetown.
patnfrank Posted August 2, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2006 Nova Scotia has very restrictive lobster fishing laws. Most areas allow only a few weeks a year! You can enjoy much better lobster in Maine at far less cost. Nova Scotia has lots of other seafood including wonderful fresh mussels at incredible prices. Having fished Lobster in Nova Scotia you are partially correct. The province is split in to areas and generally lobster fishing goes on all year long. As for Maine lobster being a better deal, if you mean cheaper may be true but for flavour no way. The best lobster comes from the colder water which is very much so off the NS coast!
