Grand Cayman - Atlantis Submarine excursion

Already posted this question under Disabled Cruise Travel - thought I'd try here, too.

Traveling on RCI's FOTS soon. Question on the Atlantis submarine shore excursion:

How much actual walking is involved?

My husband has left-sided weakness due to a stroke in January 06. We will be taking the manual wheelchair for the ship. Would like to know if it is necessary on this excursion. He can walk, but tires easily.

We already know about the ladder on the sub and will be able to navigate that part ok.

The other excursion of concern is the helicopter ride over stingray city.

Thanks for any advice.

Can your husband sit w/o his wheel chair?

We went on an Atlantis sub in Hawaii, and they do not have a back in the seats....

It is very steep climbing in and out as well.

I do not think the wheelchair can go in the sub? Unless

you have contacted Atlantis and found out otherwise?
