helene123 Posted July 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Anyone else going on the Avalon Tapestry for the Amsterdam-Basel cruise leaving on August 13? If anyone has been on this ship I'd love to hear about it. We are very excited! We'll be spending a few days in Amsterdam before the cruise, and almost a week afterward in France. helene123 Posted July 16, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted July 16, 2006 I wondered if each night the boat stops in the middle of the towns you visit. Is there time then to walk around the town before dinner or early in the morning? Anyone know?
mac321 Posted July 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2006 I can only recall a few occassions where the ship stops and you could take a walk at night. These were Amsterdam, Cochem, Trier (I think) and Mainz. On other nights the ship is sailing, or is parked in an industrial area. As for walking around before breakfast, be aware that it is already a rush to have breakfast and then be ready for the mornings excursion. If you are an early riser you may have time. At Dordrecht, Cologne and Rudesheim there was enough time after the excursion to have a walk. If you want more private time, don't do all of the organised tours, or leave the tour part way through.
