flyerfan22 Posted July 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2006 OK, we're printing out driving directions for our trip in 2 weeks. We are arriving in ANC at 3 PM, stopping at Wal-Mart, and driving to Denali. Yes, we are doing it all on the same day. A little crazy, but it works for us. Anyway, I see that there are 4 Wal-Marts in/near Anchorage. Which one should we plan to stop at? This is supposed to be a quick stop to pick up some of the bulkier items that we don't want to pack: water, snacks, etc. It looks like the one in Wasilla is about 45 minutes away, and right off the highway. Is that correct? If it all possible, we don't want to go out of our way (considering we have a 4-5 hour drive to Denali). Thanks! Chenega Posted July 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2006 Yes, the Wasilla Wal-Mart is reached by an exit from the Parks Highway. Look for Seward-Meridian Road, exit, and make a left. Can't miss it! The A Street Wal-Mart can be reached by taking International Airport Road from the airport to C street and making a left. C splits into one-ways roads of A and C but just stay on the road and, once again, you can't miss it. It may be the largest of the Wal-Marts. The Old Seward Hwy store is is out of your way and the Eagle River store can be accessed from the Glenn Highway and the 1st Eagle River Exit (Hiland/Eagle River Loop) - it's about a mile off the road. FYI - another good place to get supplies is our Fred Meyers stores. There are several throughout Anchorage, Eagle River, and Wasilla. We even have a good sized Costco as well on Bragaw and Boniface. MrBassBone Posted July 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2006 The one on A Street is a 3 minute drive from my house. My Mother used to work there as a greeter.
Chenega Posted July 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2006 Oh neat! It's still one of the biggest and busiest stores in town. If you can't find it there, you're not going to find it.

True...my mom worked there for several years. OH...and if you want Alaskan Goodies...check there. She used to get them at Carrs but "Wally-World" has them as well and usually at lower prices. gail811 Posted July 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2006 Great question! That was on our stop as well on our way to Denali and I had not researched it! Now I know!:)
AkSusan Posted July 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2006 The one in Wasilla is huge. Used to be a smaller one across the street but when they built the newer one right on the other side of the highway from the old one, Sears moved into that one. Good place to pick up reasonably priced sovenoirs too. Susan in Anchorage :)
