Beaches and shopping

My family will be first time cruisers in Oct. We really don't do the tour thing. We're looking for a day playing on the beach and or shopping. Are either of these things possible on Grand Cayman and where do we go to do them?:D

Shopping is all right at the pier. Your tender lands and all the shops, etc. are right across the street and on some adjoining streets. Can't miss it. As far as beaches there are also plenty of those. Sea Grape is my recommendation. It is on Seven Mile and is about a 10 min cab ride. $4 per person each way and has food, drinks, restrooms, chair rentals, water sport rentals, etc. You could always go to Hell to say you have been to Hell and back. It is cute for t-shirts, etc. Not much there and you will only stay about 15 mins or so. But neat to do once.
