Late flight luggage question

I know I should know this answer but we did this prior to 9/11 so I'm sure the rules have changed regarding luggage. Our flight doesn't leave Ft.Lauderdale until 5:20 pm. at the end of our cruise. We would like to take the everglades tour what happens to our luggage?? Do we have to check in at the airport and from there do a tour?? Anyone have this happen to them?? Thanks for your replies:)

We once had a late flight our of FLL and took a tour through the cruise line. They simply put your luggage in the botom of the bus, then took you on the tour. After the tour we were dropped off with our luggage at the airport.
