sjsuda Posted July 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2006 I've already posted this question on the Ports of Call- Europe forum, but after I thought it would be more appropriate here. We are taking a cruise on the Carnival Freedom next year with our son. He will be 2 years 4 months when we cruise. Does anyone has the experience of travelling with young children in the Meditteranean. What type of excursions do you suggest? We are a little bit worried on what excursions to take because of the young age of our son. Just to let you know, ports of call are Dubrovnik, Messina, Naples, Venice, Barcellona, Cannes & Livorno. sjsuda Posted July 19, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted July 19, 2006 Thanks for answering. These forums really help and give a lot of information. However when you have young children, sometimes you are worried of what tours you take because they might not like them. So thanks once again. Onessa Posted July 19, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2006 We did several land-based European vacations with our DD (now 11YO) - including France when she was about 24MO and Italy prior to her 3rd birthday and again when she was 4. Grocery stores and places to buy diapers and such are a bit more difficult to find in the touristy spots where you are likely to be when on a cruise, so overpacking a bit is not a bad idea. When she was very young we scheduled our flights so that she would sleep through most of it. She was always good at sleeping "on the go" and we'd get her an early lunch and she'd nap through our adult lunch. We always made sure to have a lot of snacks and toys/activities for her. We looked out for playgrounds and other open areas for some running around time (great way to meet other parents!) We adjusted our expectations and didn't try to cram too much stuff into the schedule - mainly self-guided walking tours with her in the stroller. She still has vivid memories of feeding the pigeons in St. Mark's Square when whe was only 3. Occassionally she will surprise me with some comment that shows that at least subconciously she remembers things about Paris when she was only two. Have a great time!
