If you are visiting the UK over the next couple of months, you may be interested to hear that Buckingham Palace is open to the public for three months a year, a custom started because of the fire at Windsor castle a few years ago, and the country are making the queen pay for the repairs!! can you imagine if there was a fire at the White House and George Bush had to pay for it out of his own pocket!

Anyway I digress, there is a good site where you can buy your tickets for most of the Royal Palaces around the country (not just London), http://www.royalcollection.org.uk

Enjoy your trip, by the way it is the queens 80th Birthday this year so you should find quite a lot of special events on during your visit. Especially in London.

I'm not sure if it has been reported outside the UK but the Queen is currently on holiday on The Hebridean Princess (ex car ferry turned into an exclusive small cruise ship) due to the fact that she was shamelessly forced to give up her Royal Yacht Britannia (for similar reasons to the repairs to her castle) several years ago.
