reds1515 Posted July 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Quick question..I understand the better your cabin the more expensive the room,it's understandable...the better the room the more money it cost, but should the price increase for youngsters as well,I would think the kids price would be the same no-matter what part of the ship the parents choose?? are they eating more,by having a better room, the ship mates are making more tip money due to more people in the room...just an observation...Hotels do not charge more money per kid if you choose lux. room.I think kids prices should be set at a standard price and left there. Sure... the 3rd/4th person rates are not "kids" rates... they are rates for the 3rd and 4th person in the cabin, adult or kid. They are a percentage of the full fare, depending on the ship, cabin, etc. Why wouldn't they increase?? Are you eating more just because you are on a higher deck?? Do you have a better room on a higher deck??? Why should kids be any different??? You are paying for the berth... regardless of the age of the person. So if I only eat half the food you eat, and stay on deck 2 nights, should I get a discount too?? :p See the logic??? :D Most hotels aren't all inclusive (unless you are talking a resort) and most don't have a camp, entertainment, etc etc etc. A cruise ship is a different vacation... big_duck Posted July 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Carnival doesn't have kids prices, it has 3rd and 4th pax in a room prices. Nothing says they have to be kids.
reds1515 Posted July 27, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Ok...But if your 3rd and 4th travlers are Kids Ages 1-10,which would be very obvious when you board the ship, why hit them them a price increase, they are not going to take advantage of the Many things that take place on the ship,Entertaiment..ect....I see the camp point...I would like it to be more "Family-Priced".As for the camp point your not paying more for the camp if your in a 4-a,as compaired to a suite. Victory Bound Posted July 27, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2006 I thought the 3rd/4th passenger rates had gone up a lot from my March 02 cruise to my Pride 06 cruise. The rates were so high that we ended up getting an inside cabin across the hall for my 13 and 9 year old and it only cost a couple hundred more than if we had kept them in the same cabin with us. I figure that Carnival lost out on this deal because it was an extra cabin that they couldn't sell to someone else. No extra alcohol to sell either. It ended up working well for us. 2 bathrooms, 2 TV's (important for the kids) and everyone had their own bed. No couch or pull-down bunkbed. You might want to check this option. It worked really well for us.

I think HAL is one of them. Just don't expect Camp Carnival ;) The cabins are not priced based on age... and they are not priced on how much fun one has, how many activities they do, etc. They are berths. reds1515 Posted July 27, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Carnival makes a few more bucks as well if the Parents want to attend the shows at night and "Pay" for a sitter,I'm not saying wave the sitter fee,but it's another way the costs goes up. reds1515 Posted July 27, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted July 27, 2006 More affortable for families I guess is what I saying,if we choose a suite it should not costs the family another $300-400 dollars extra for there kids..again 3rd person being age 6 and 4th passanger being 9. Standard kid price no matter what part of the ship you choose.
Sharkin Posted July 27, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 27, 2006 If the line books a suite for the 3rd or 4th person at a reduced "kids" price, wouldn't they be losing out on the price they could charge the 3rd or 4th adult?

Do your kids not sleep, eat, play, swim, etc???? Just trying to understand why you feel your kids should be treated differently than anyone else cruising is all... do they sleep on the floor? I'm just trying to understand.
mrdood Posted July 27, 2006 #11 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Yes, they could go to kid pricing, that is what you are arguing, in which case don't expect it to be any cheaper as they will calculate in the cost for Camp Carnival etc etc into the tiered age fare - whether you use those services or not. Then the kid price for a 4A will go up substantially, and the kid price for a suite will come down substantially - in the end Carnival will make the same amount of money. Those trying to do an inexpensive trip with the kids in a low cost inside room will start complaining just like you are, but in the opposite direction... Are you following the logic?? Carnival has very serious big hitter financial analysts that set pricing. They know what they are doing, it may not benefit you in the "more expensive" cabin scenario, but it will if you are really trying to save money with a cheaper cabin. Stevie17 Posted July 27, 2006 #12 Share Posted July 27, 2006 I think that the 3rd/4th person rate for children makes perfect sense. Yeah sure, they won't consume the same amount of food as their adult counterparts, but they still require the same amount of care from their respective cabin attendants (perhaps even more), and they use facilities such as Camp Carnival, the pool, etc. We're bringing our two young daughters on our cruise in October, and I think the price that we've paid is very fair. No issues here.......

Stevie17 Posted July 27, 2006 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Goin'....quite true, quite true. My little ones, however, eat like birds. Yet, I still don't think that I should get a childs' discount as they utilze other resources throughout the ship.
Rare silentbob007 Posted July 27, 2006 #15 Share Posted July 27, 2006 I thought that 3/4 passenger rates were standard across the board on the same sailing ... ie, if the rate for 3/4 on an inside is 399/pp, then it will be 399/pp in a category 12 as well. No, it ranges anywhere from a 1/4 to 1/2 of the 1st/2nd rates from what I have seen... On SOME sailings, it is the same regardless (have seen this on group bookings)
reds1515 Posted July 27, 2006 Author #17 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Ok...I see the 3rd and 4th passanger points, kids are not different than anyone else and should pay the same price no matter what there ages.We will gladly pay the 3rd and 4th charges,I was trying to save the family a few bucks,....speaking of saving a few bucks, maybe if everyone that cruised did not sneak "ANY" Alchol onto the ships which is not allowed, the prices would come down a bit.How about that,I'll gladly sit by the pool with kids and order my paided drinks,so everyone is happy. No need to save a few bucks on the drinks...right...I think saving a few bucks is only convient when it applies to yourself. My how quickly one turns... if you don't like the answers, you shouldn't have posted. Seemed you were looking for opinions since you actually didn't ask a question. Hey, I bring a bottle and still spend $1K during the course of the week... how are the prices going to come down? The majority of people don't do it for anything other than convenience in their cabin  And believe me, cruise prices are at a LOW, and we will see them going UP. I've NEVER saved money on drinks... believe me!! How about chastizing the people who don't drink? Who don't gamble? Who don't buy pictures, spa treatments, excursions, etc.??????? There are FAR more of those people! How about the people that buy ONE drink a day??? Believe me, there are FAR more people that spend WAY less than many of the "drinkers" spend. Everyone is always quick to blame though... yet they aren't pissed at the people that spend $60 on their S&S account all week

Stevie17 Posted July 27, 2006 #21 Share Posted July 27, 2006 If the lack of a childs' fare bothers you that much, you may want to check out lines such as NCL that only charge tax and port charges for children. If it's about saving money, that may be one way to go.

Carnival's system is fair as is.

From my perspective this comes down to supply/demand, and how much profit Carnival makes. Carnival could easily implement a kids sail free option, I have seen advertizements for Costa(owned by Carnival) that does this from time to time. Does Carnival think they would make more money doing this? No, or they would implement this on Carnival also. As long as their ships sail full, there is no incentive to lower rates for either kids, or 3rd and 4th pax. Also, you can argue the point that kids use less resources on the ship. But the counterpoint is that kids also spend less on other items(Casino, and Foo Foo dirnks) where Carnival makes a hefty profit.
serene56 Posted July 27, 2006 #25 Share Posted July 27, 2006 Costa sometimes has sales where kids cruise free-- BUT those prices for an adult are almost double..so where is the "real" free kids. NCL charges for kids over 2..its the kids under 2 that only pay tax and port charges. Interesting post- I am one of those people who have a double digit sign and sail account at the end of the week-- for us our cruise is almost an all inclusive. we were taking the baby with us on the Destiny in Sept-- she woulda been 9 months old. (PLUS TIP it was just getting to be too much money and too much hassle-- will save it for when she is older
