Pre-Cruise Victoria to Vancouver

Recommended Posts

We are thinking of doing a pre-cruise in Victoria and then heading to Vancouver for a few days prior to an Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver. What is the best way to get between Victoria and Vancouver with luggage?

So does that mean the ferry would be the best versus flying? If so how much is the ferry and how long does it take. Would there be a problem with renting a car in Victoria and droping it off in Vancouver? Or would we better off flying into Vancouver and renting the car and taking it to Victoria for a few days then back to Vancouver?

Thanks in advance,

Marilee

Fly into Victoria, rent a car and return it in Victoria (actually you proabaly won't even need one). Pacific Coach Lines offers a Victoria to cruise ship terminal so you would catch the bus in downtown Victoria, travel onto the ferry, and then be deposited at the terminal in Vancouver.

I agree with this. I would rather take the ferry instead of flying. Think of it as a mini cruise - it's truly breathtaking. The flight is so quick it's over before you know it. And Pacific Coach Lines are a relaxing way to travel between the cities without having to get in line for the ferry (or pay for a reservation on the ferry). The Coach has guaranteed boarding so you can rely on the timing.

Enjoy!

you asked how long the ferry ride is - approx 1 hr 40 mins and very pretty especially when you pass thru the narrows.

There are restaurants on board adn depending which ferry you catch more than 1 to choose from. The newer larger ferry has both a cafiteria plus upstairs a buffet with window tables so that you can enjoy the view while you eat. The older smaller ferry has only the cafiteria.

Check the cost of the flight to Victoira vs Vancouver and if it is a lot more than fly return out of Vancouver and go Vancover to Victoria via the ferry both ways.

In the summer the ferries run every hour all day.
