Parking at the port of Kahului?

We will be on the Pride of Aloha leaving from Maui on 9/15. I am thinking of renting a car at the airport for the 2 days we will be there but was wondering what the parking situation was at the port since the car will be there overnight. Anybody parked there?

Yes, we parked there overnight for our Pride of America cruise in June. It is free to park there and then just a short walk to the ship and we had no problems. Have heard that the lot can fill up but we were fortunate and found a place to park even though we came in after 10 pm from a luau near Lahaina.

There is plenty of free parking available in Maui so don't worry about rushing back to secure a space. All around the port basically is open to parking after 5pm. You may be a block or two away from the ship but you'll be able to park even if you arrive back late in the evening.

All the major car rental companies send shuttles right to the cruise dock. Thrifty's location was near the airport which was just a couple miles away. I don't know about the other companies. We used Thrifty for all the ports, except for Kona, where we did not rent a car.

Thanks! Glad to know that.:)

Ditto earlier posters. Used Thrifty for all our rentals (used cab at Kona) and found drivers very helpful about pointing out good scenic drives, and parking on Maui. We got back quite late from Lahaina (did not park close to our luau at Feast at Lele) and found parking with a little help from the pier security guard. He told us just to be sure not to block any of the big construction equipment for their morning work!
