Stolen Cameras! Enchantment Sailed 8-10 from Ft. Lauderdale

Recommended Posts

Keep checking with the cruise line...on our recent August cruise, our table mates found photos from the photo shop in one of the drawers with a receipt dated June 6, 2006! Not only that, but there was jewelry discovered in the space near the safe....of course, they turned it in....I sure do hope you get your camera back....gives you an uneasy feeling to know you are sailing with dishonest people....so goes the world, I suppose.

We were on that same cruise but unfortunately didn't eat in the Windjammer that night. Hopefully it was just one of the crew members - I left my sunglasses in the theater and before I could run back and get them - literally 1 minute later, the crew had already been through and sat them up on the end of the line of seats. The wait staff in the Windjammer was very fast to clean the tables and with both of you gone might have though the table was vacated. I hope you find them!

Why in the world would you "hope" it was a crew member? That wasn't very nice. On a ship with that many people on it, the odds would favor a neighboring passenger!

Another good reason to never, ever leave anything laying around unattended. Hopefully, someone turned it over to lost and found and the poster will get it back - I doubt it though....a thief is a thief.

That is very unfortunate, Hope it turns up. Two years ago on the Mariner I left my wallet on top of the Credit machine, came back 2 mins. later...GONE

Ever since then i only bring my Seapass card and a Photo Id. with me around the ship....

She might of meant that a crew member found it and it will be turned in.

Every time this post pops up, I immediately scroll to the end hoping to find a happy ending!! Gosh, I feel for you... I also think it so incredibly sweet that you thought to reach out to others for photos from your sailing to try and salvage the memories for your wife. Hopefully, someone will be able to help you out. Stay faithful... It could still very well still turn up. It sounds as though many are sending prayers your way, ourselves, included! Best wishes :)

Something that I learned after our DD left her new camera at Vegas airport (which by the way had her delivery shots of her having our granddaughter), put a return address label on the bottom of the camera. If you should happen to leave it somewhere, at least there is a name and address on it. when we sail, I always put our cabin number on the label, just incase. When we were on the Explorer in March, I was in the photo shop and there were quite a few others (it was between the dinner times). I found a camera just sitting on the counter. Once I said something a lady behind me overheard me saying something to one of the workers. She about freaked out when she realized it was hers and she had left it on the counter by mistake. Hope things work out for you!

I appreciate you looking into it for me! I haven't heard from anyone else, but did have a nice person tell me they were going to be sailing on the Enchantment in a few weeks and offered to take some pics. I really appreciate everyone on this board! nice folks!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks to everyone for the photos that you sent to me. We stil have no word on the cameras and prpbably never will, but I received some great pictures of our actual cruise from some of the terrific people on this board.

In fact, in one of the very last photos I received, there we were, actually in the photo! The photo taker was sitting 3-4 rows behind us in the Spotlight Lounge, and my wife was actually looking backwards when the picture was taken! That was so cool! I put togther a video of all the pics I received and that was the last one on the show - we got a big kick out of it! Its not the same as having the pics and video we took, but it really helped us cope with the loss.

I can't begin to thank those that sent the photos to us enough! Someday, maybe I can return the favor! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!

Just returned from our very first cruise (as a surprise for my Wife's 40th birthday) On the last night (8-13-06) we ate in the Windjammer and sat at a 2-person table next to the window on the starboard (right) side. We both got up (me for more iced tea, my wife for dessert) and came back only a few mintues later to find our camera bag gone. It had both our Sony camcorder, and our Sony digital camera, along with accessories like light, extra lense, etc. I know it a long shot, but thought I'd post to see if annyone saw anything. And for what it is worth - to whomever - keep the cameras and accessories, we just want the memory sticks and 2 MiniDV tapes - PLEASE!.

it really killed the excitement of our first cruise! To see my wife crying when departing the ship was hard. So much for the nice surprise cruise.

How unfortunate. I hope they do turn up and that you enjoyed your cruise.

YIKES!

I would hope it was a crew member as well, given they picked it up thinking the owners left, and turned it into lost and found.

I know all too well how hard it is to find a lost item on a ship. After the 7/18 list on the Crown, someone on board had my cell phone and kept trying to contact us, but finally returned it to lost and found. We attempted to get it back for about 20 hours, and knew it was somewhere safe on the ship, but didn't get it back until last week in the mail. We hoped it was a crew member that found it at first too, but it turns out that a passenger found it and turned it in.

Thanks to that passenger for finding my Nextel if you're reading!!!!

So, you never know. Maybe it wasn't a thief! Good luck!

When you walk away from your belongings or even just put them in a place where they would be really easy to steal, we call it "White Fogging". My sister was in the Peace Corps in Eastern Europe and that's where we picked up the term.

Most of the volunteers had "lost" something to white fogging. Putting something on a table to the side of you, maybe the side close to a door or walkway and after being distracted for only a moment, stuff is gone.

I think the term comes from being a little too comfortable thinking everything is safe, as if you really are walking around in a "White Fog". Americans get pretty comfortable thinking you can leave your purse in your shopping cart and walk away for a few minutes, anyone living in a large city knows this is just asking for trouble.

Sometimes we just forget, sometimes we get neglegent. This is kind of in response to some folks who have a thread going about losing a camara on a cruise that was a surprise for a 40th birthday. Major bummer, my sympathies!

Keep in mind your not in your own home town, all sorts of people will be crossing your path. Like the people you meet, enjoy the people you meet, but please don't test the people you meet by leaving your stuff out and vulnerable.

Happy travels!

Anyone have advice for people to travel safe, or stories or things being returned?

People seem to think that since they are on vacation they must be in paradise so they can throw caution to the wind. Sadly, there is crime everywhere, including on cruise ships. You have to protect yourself and your valuables at all times.

something similar happened to one of my clients on the Summit in July. I did have them contact Celebrity to fill out a form. It took several weeks, but they did finally get a notice from Celebrity that the camera had been located. All they were required to do was pay the shipping, and now they have their camera back with all the film.

Sure hope you story end the same way.

We found a nice camera someone had left behind on the Mariner in the casino. We turned it in to the casino staff at the cashier window. They thanked us and said they would send it on to lost and found. Sure hope those people got it back! I should look at some of the previous posts to see if anyone was missing their camera from that sailing on the Mariner.

Best of luck, and keep us posted.

On my next cruises I will not carry my memory cards in my bag. I plan to leave them in the safe until the last morning when we leave and take them out. That way, if I lose my camera bag, at least I will still have some pictures.

Really sad - If you haven't done it already, check with RCI.

We were on an excursion and someone threw our camera overboard! Long story, but the short of it was we got money back to buy a new one. (if you want to read about it see Carnival Destiny Mary Olczyk 12/04 cruise review and scroll down to Barbados)

I am so sorry for your lose. On an entirely different note. I was on Enchantment a few years back (before the stretch) in the corner cabin (port rear...JS 7th deck) I don't know how it happened but the roll of money I was carrying (over two thousand dollars) dropped to the floor just before I left for dinner. I did not realize it until much late when I was at the casino and reached in my pocket to get some money. In a panic I raced back to my cabin. There in the night stand next to my bed was all my money...with a note from the cabin steward "you dropped this"...he had come in and cleaned my cabin, found the money on the floor and returned it. Needless to say he got a very large tip and a huge thank you at the end of the cruise.
