gsocruisers Posted August 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2006 We looking at getting a cc for my husband's new business to purchase supplies on. It will be paid off each month. I thought I'd see if anyone had Royal's & if it was worthwhile for the rewards? Thanks
benjidog Posted August 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I've only had mine for a few months, but it's much better then my old card which had no perks. So far I have enough for $100 on board credit. I also pay mine off every month.
dolphincruiser404 Posted August 17, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I pay mine off monthly as well. I love it. I already have enough for almost a free comapnion cruise.
gsocruisers Posted August 17, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 17, 2006 Thanks for the info. How many 'points' do you need for a companion ticket, if you don't mind me asking?
cruisin4kicks Posted August 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2006 We're going on a cruise the middle of September. I just turned in 10,000 points and got $100 credit for that cruise. We'll have enough for at least another $200 on board credit for a cruise we have booked for October of 2007. Tim
dolphincruiser404 Posted August 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2006 It is 25,000 for a companion fare on a 3 or 4 night Bahamas or Mexico cruise. I belive you can also upgrade inside to outside or outside to balcony for 25,000 points. You also get double points for every dollar on RCCL! I thought I'd see if anyone had Royal's & if it was worthwhile for the rewards? Thanks Typically the payback to you on the card is between 1% to a maximum of 2%. those that go for the free cruise for two, while the maximum would be 2%, usually realize a payback of 1.6% to 1.7%. Here is the link to RCCL's list of benefits: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/dealsandmore/offer/visa.do;jsessionid=0000W8eVSHV68CMLW2PEeXtR-F5:10ktdmm42 If you do a search on this thread, there are sevel discussions from spring and early summer about the value of the payback. suezyq50 Posted August 17, 2006 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I earned a $50 credit for one I took in June. I should have enough, after I get double points for our Dec. cruise, to pay for our upgrade for our May cruise. It is worth it to us. :D

Beach4me Posted August 17, 2006 #10 Share Posted August 17, 2006 We just booked a short-notice cruise of the Sovereign for next month. We got the $500 off and some onboard credit - and we should have enough points for another $50 ob credit by the time we go. It's costing us less than $200 for the 3 of us. Since we had an $800 hotel room booked at a beach for the same period of time, we are pretty happy! I think the NCL card is pretty good too - bigger rewards for the same money. The Carnival card is the absolute worst (except they don't charge the foreign conversion fee for purchases in Caribbean cruise ports!). I'm VERY happy with the RCCL card. sgttami Posted August 17, 2006 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I got mine about a year ago and don't use it often but when I applied they had a bonus promo and I got 5000 points for my first purchase (no matter what you bought). I didn't pay much attention to it until we booked the 9/3 Bermuda cruise at somewhat the last minute and I got my RCI statement and saw that I had about 7500 points. ( I use a different card for paying cruises).. Called the number on the card and got a $50 shipboard credit. Since I don't use that card much I figured I'd take it NOW. Not a lot....but hey, it's good for some drinks, dinner at Portofino or the casino, whatever...$50.00 is OK with me Pam
IBookHePays Posted August 17, 2006 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I've only had it for a short amount of months, but I use it as often as I feel comfortable, and pay it off each month. That being said, the best part is seeing the ship on the card when I use it! (Perpetual Vacationitis!):D

sherry7 Posted August 17, 2006 #15 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I use 2 credit cards on a regular basis... I have a Citibank card that gets 5% rewards on gas purchases, pharmacy purchases, and grocery purchases. With the high price of gas (and my gas guzzling SUV), I'm really banking up some big reward points on that card. Then I have the RCCL card, which is 1 point per dollar spent (basically meaning 1%) that I use for everything else. I charge everything, even $1-$2 purchase at McDonald's, etc. It adds up. I pay both cards off every month, so I never accrue any finance charges. funfamilyfun Posted August 17, 2006 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I just received my Royal card and I plan on paying it off every month. I'm hoping for an onboard credit. Here is my question...if I use the card to pay my cruise bill, will I get double points for that? I know you receive double points for on board charges, but I wasn't sure if I earned double points for paying for the cruise...I hope so! Thanks
gsocruisers Posted August 17, 2006 Author #17 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I just tried phoning on this. They asked me for a 'source or priority' code. There isn't anything listed on the website given above. Anyone know what they are talking about? I want to make sure I apply for the right cc with the points. AFT_LOVER Posted August 17, 2006 #18 Share Posted August 17, 2006 Love the OBC we get every cruise, but hate that there is no warranty coverage on major purchases. That is only for the Signature Visa card. What is so PLATINUM PLUS with the RCCL except for tax free cashback. They should get the Signure Visa card so we get the excellent benefits. I learned this when we bought a clothes dryer & they store didn't take AMEX. So we used RCCL VISA. Then I learned from MBNA that there is no warranty & they resent me the attachment when I got my card that lists benefits. So we use it for all RCCL charges, and anything that isn't a warranty product. Then that goes on AMEX BLUE SKY since they add one year to any warranty under 5 years. prc Posted August 17, 2006 #19 Share Posted August 17, 2006 We use this card for everything. Yes, any charge listed as Royal Caribbean, RCI, etc. or a ship name (some times you seapass comes billed under the ship name) is double points. We have taken one free 4 night for 2, and will be taking another in November!
dolphincruiser404 Posted August 17, 2006 #20 Share Posted August 17, 2006 When I called they originally asked me for the code or something, but I didn't have one so they were able to look it up.

Shanafan Posted August 18, 2006 #23 Share Posted August 18, 2006 In the first year of having our card we earned the maximum points, 125,000, and used it towards $2500 off our cruise booked for February. We use it for everything and pay it off each month. We used our card for college tuition, gas, utilities, phone, ect. It adds up every month. We had no problem using our coupon on our previously booked cruise.
