Boston's Beantown Trolley question

Recommended Posts

The closet stop from Black Falcon Cruise Terminal is at the Children's Museum and the Boston Tea Party Ship.(Congress Street) It is six blocks from the Boston Seaport Hotel. The cost of the trolley I believe is $29.00 per adult.

I hope this helps.

Happy Sailings!:)

I called Beantown Trolley directly a month or so ago and asked the same thing. The lady said they would have a rep right at the dock for the fall cruises and that you could get tickets there. I think there is a shuttle service you can use too for $12????

Can anyone verify this info?

Thanks

Leslie

Nancy, we are looking into using Beantown Trolley too. Jim and I did some research today and it looks like it goes most of the places that we wanted to go. If there is a company rep at the dock it will make it very easy to use. See you soon!

I posted this on the other Beantown Trolley string too:

Black Falcon Transportation

Cruiseport Boston, operating at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in the South Boston Waterfront District, is one of the most popular cruise ports in North America for a very good reason – its proximity to the City of Boston. To help passengers make the most of their Port of Call, a first class, round-trip shuttle is now in operation to get you where you're going safely, efficiently, and comfortably.

Operated by Brush Hill / Gray Line / Beantown Trolley, the shuttle offers transportation on Port of Call days to some of Boston’s best destinations, such as: the New England Aquarium, located on Central Wharf on Boston’s vibrant Waterfront; Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the seat of American history and the site of one of America's most famous shopping and dining experiences and Copley Square, home to Trinity Church, the elegant and upscale Copley Place Mall; and adjacent to trendy Newbury Street.

Shuttles depart every 15 minutes from the Cruise Terminal on Port of Call days, approximately from the time passengers are first allowed to leave their vessel, until the time advertised by the vessel as the last opportunity to re-board.

FARE SCHEDULE FOR TROLLEY SHUTTLE: April through August:$8.00 one way$12.00 round tripSeptember & October:$10.00 one way$15.00 round trip

** Tickets and information is available within the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal. Brush Hill / Gray Line / Beantown Trolley personnel will be on site to assist all passengers and will provide escort to Trolleys and Coaches.

We did this in 2004 and it worked great for us. The trolley shuttle was a little cheaper than Princess's bus shuttle. They dropped us at the Custom House, and our shuttle ticket included a discount (<$10) on the regular shuttle route. We walked a block or two to the harbor and boarded a trolley. We stopped at Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market and at City Place.

We would have stopped more, but it was wet and rainy. It was also the opening day of the World Series in Boston, so we also had to contend with those complications -- traffic, street closings, and the trolley route shutting down early so they could shuttle VIPs.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just posted this information on another thread:

We just got back yesterday. We had planned to take the Beantown Trolley in Boston but found CityView first. There is a booth in the main terminal at South Station (the local bus and subway system). We caught the Silverline 2 (SL2) bus to South Station ($1.25pp). There is a stop at the end of the pier (turn right out of the cruise terminal to catch the bus). Then we went across the street to the main terminal at South Station and bought our tickets (senior and AAA discounts and it cost $27pp). As far as we could tell, all the trolleys are about the same. When we were done, we rode the trolley back to South Station and caught the SL2 back to the Black Falcon pier. Everyone was very helpful in Boston. The ship's shuttle to Boston was $12 round trip so the bus was much cheaper and quite easy to do. It was also an interesting experience. Be aware that some things don't open until 10 or later. We toured the Constitution (a stop on the trolley tour) but it wasn't open when we went there the first time. It opens at 10:30. The harbor cruise that is included in the trolley fare doesn't start until 10:30 either. We weren't able to make that. By the time that we did the other things it was getting too late to do it. If you start the tour early, you might want to walk to Quincy Market from the 1st stop (short walk) and then come back to stop one and take the first harbor cruise at 10:30. After the cruise go to the Constitution (stop 4) and tour that. Then do the rest of the tour getting on and off as you want. Be sure to see the public garden at stop 6. It is a quiet and restful where you can recharge your batteries after a busy day. You can then walk through Boston Common and catch the trolley at stop 7. Go to stop 8 at South Station and catch the bus back to the ship. They run every 10 minutes or so. A good place for lunch is Quincy Market. Have a great trip!

Thanks Judy for the info. I do have a question thougj. Wwe will be in Boston on a cruise oct. 7th and was there a representative from Beantown trolley at the pier. As I understand from previous searching they would take you into town for a fee and then you pick a tour that you want for an additional fee. I hope I am explaining that right. I think the stop is near Boston Common. By the way we are on a Celebrity ship and was just curious if you saw a shuttle from them. Maybe they were not in town on the day you went.

But thanks anyway for your information. That helps. alot.

We had the same information about the Beantown Trolley and planned to use them but didn't find anyone at the pier. We left as early as we could though (about 8:30) so they might have come later. Taking the city bus worked out fine and was cheap and convenient for us. It cost the 2 of us $5 rather than $24 for the ship's shuttle. Like I said, everyone was very helpful. One of the security guys even put our money in the machine for the ticket and took us through the gate and pointed us to the proper stairs for the return trip. I highly recommend it. We also liked CityView Trolley. We had all 3 guides during the day. The first was a rather irreverant sort who kept us in stitches. All of them was very "Boston".
