BESCHER99 Posted August 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2006 Hi Can anyone tell me if you can actually get married aboard the QM2:confused: I've tried searching and come up with renewing vows but nothing on actually getting married. travel-to-go Posted August 29, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2006 The myth of captains at sea being able to marry people is just that.. a myth. Most ships will arrange weddings on board. They are usually done before sailing, at dock, and according to the rules of whatever jurisdiction they are under. I.E. New York State laws, if in New York. Some ships (and some islands) will also allow marriages while docked in foreign ports- Such as the Bahamas or Jamaica- I can't quite remember who- But must be pre-arranged, and subject to their rules for how long you must be there. If you go to a Bridal Fair, you are bound to find a travel agent there who specializes in such weddings. I would recommend finding a good full time travel agent to help you with arrangements. You need someone who can navigate the rules of the country you will be in and be sure that that marriage is legally recognized in your home country. I have had some training in this in seminars, and I would truly recommend you find someone who does this alot and knows what they are doing. Some cruise lines have specialists who will work with the client and the travel agent on arrangements. I am not aware of such a person on Cunard, although I would bet that it can be done. I don't know of any cruise lines that do not do this, though I have not asked! Karie, Who wishes you the best!
Jungle Posted September 5, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Commodore Warwick performed legal marriages on both the QE2 and QM2. The marriages were carried under the laws of MA and when the ships were in Boston harbor.
