curlyQ Posted September 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Hello everyone: does Cunard still do a 'crossing the Equator' ceremony and issue a certificate of such to passengers on world cruises?

ricker Posted September 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2006 This ceremony was a real highlight to our Westbound Path of Magellan trip this year. For passengers who signed up to participate, or even those who just went out to watch, it was, indeed, a spectacle to behold. Events started with photo ops of "kissing a fish", then a marching band led in the ship's officers to "Anchors Aweigh". After a short speech passengers were dunked in the pool. The ceremony for crew members was a little more elaborate with a smearing of "nasty bilge water" (spaghetti and sauce) then a dunking. Crew members were in costumes such as pirates, mermaids, Neptune, etc. The passengers who signed up to participate were given certificates. A couple of pictures of the ceremony and certificate are among these: Page 1, third row down) http://travel.webshots.com/album/548232658wuXvlQ?start=
mufi Posted September 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Yes, King Neptune, kiss the fish and the pool full of gunge that has been tipped over the heads (and in other places) of the Cunard staff. Luckilly they are very gentle with passengers. Some pics. here. imageevent.com/mufi (choose World Cruise) David
