ISKI4FN Posted September 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2006 We are planning a cruise that leaves out of Port Canaveral. We will be flying in early to Orlando to spend some time at Disney & Universal. We need to find transportation to Port Canaveral. The cruise line will only pick us up on the day of the cruise and only from the airport. The cost is $64.00 RT. Is there a better way for a family of 5 to get from the Orlando area to Port Canaveral? Thanks

MCManders99 Posted September 17, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2006 Take the cruises transportation or rent a vehicle. It's only a 45 minute drive to the Port from Orlando. Taxi's, etc, might be too expensive. From the airport to my house (which is 15 minute drive) It cost $45 dollars for just me. I would price the rental to see if it can beat the cruise transportation price. Good Luck.
klflote Posted September 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2006 The $64 is per person, isn't it? Maybe less for children, but we were offered $64 RT per person last time we cruised out of Port Canaveral. That will change your options, I'd think. A car rental would be far easier. Search this board for car rentals in Orlando and you'll find a lot of satisfied cruisers who did that; we had a particularly good experience with Budget. They'll all let you pick up in Orlando, drop off later in Port Canaveral, and then shuttle you the short distance to the port (and vice versa on the return). dawndelion Posted September 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2006 We rented a car from Budget at Downtown Disney for $47 and dropped it off at the Budget in Port Canaveral. They have a shuttle that takes you right to ship when you drop off the car. When we got off of the ship, the shuttle took us back to the Budget rental spot in Cape Canaveral and we rented the car for the same amount and dropped it off at Orlando International Airport. Very convenient and quick!
mmsmaggie Posted September 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2006 We just did this over the summer to sail on the Mariner, only we did Disney on the end. There are two options. If you are staying on Disney then you can use Magical Express for FREE transport to and from Orlando airport. This will save money since you don't need a car if staying "on property". We then rented a Budget rent-a-car from Orlando to Port Canaveral. We were quoted $59p/p for the ship's transfer and there were 3 of us ($180). We did a one way rental with Budget, you pick the car up right at the terminal (no shuttle) and drive the 1 hour to PC. Then you return the car at the Budget there and they shuttle you for free to the boat (about 2 miles). This cost us a total of $90 r/t for 3. That was 1/2 price and gave us flexability to make any stops there and back. if you are not staying on Disney then rent the car from your arrival to sail date and handle the same way.
