Avignon Train Station to Palace of Popes

Hi

Once I get off the train in Avignon, how do I get to the Palace of Popes? Walking directions are needed as we are doing this excursion on our own.

After you get off of the train, leave the station and you will see the city walls. Walk thru the entrance and walk straight thru the town to the palace. You can't get lost as the town ends at the river and the palace is close by and you will know it when you see it. The town is not very large at all. There are some nice outdoor cafes in the center of town and when we were there they had a good outdoor market near the entrance walls of the town. At that time they were selling nice Provence pattern table linens and a host of other stuff, some good, some not so good.

 

We spent the night there and then took the train to Paris and it was a nice one day visit.

We were with a private driver last week who then took us to Les Baux and to Arles, but I wanted to let you know that we concur completely with the advice on the boards that the English headsets in the palace are very informative.
