We are cruising on the Glory on July 24. We recently earned our scuba certification and are looking to do some diving in St. Thomas, St. Maartins, and Nassau. Has anyone done any diving in this ports?

I can easily recommend a shore dive at Coki Beach with http://www.cokidive.com They offer transportation from the cruise dock to Coki beach. Taxis are readily available next door at Coral world when you are ready to head back to the ship. If you go there first thing in the morning, you will have time for 2 dives before lunch when it starts to get a bit crowded by other cruisers who have finished their shopping and want to the beach. Coki beach is also great if you are traveling with a mixed group of divers and non-divers. You can all go there together for the morning.

 

If you have the money, boat diving gives you access to better sites. Chris Sawyer (http://www.sawyerdive.vi/) has an excellent reputation. http://www.admiraltydive.com/ also is worth a look. They operate a 6 pack and will pick up from the cruise dock.

 

Sadly, the diving in St. Maarten was really disappointing when I was there on a cruise. The ocean swells were 7-9 ft which made the boat ride a bit too active for some of the divers. They ended up skipping the first dive and they fed the fish, if you know what I mean. It was quite challenging getting back into the boat after the dive. I wouldn't dive there again unless the ocean was dead flat calm, and even then I wouldn't expect much.
