Hi this is the first cruise every with my teenagers. I was wondering on the sail & sign card. Do they have a limit or not because I know my 16 yr old daughter will bleed me dry, If I dont monitor her spending. But I wonder if ccl will add limit on their cards.

Let me see if I can explain this correctly. When you get on the ship, everyone is given a s&s card. You can choose to have them place a hold on your credit card, or use cash. Gratuities are automatically taken out unless you have pre-paid them. I know on a 7 day cruise it's $10 per person per day. You may choose which cards can & cannot be charged on. You can also check your balance on your s&s card daily. Unless you specify differently at the purser's desk, or check-in, if using a credit card, all cards will be linked to 1 credit card. If using cash, all cards will be linked to the one you put the cash on. You can add money to your s&s card at any time. They will not put a limit on the child's card, but if you wish, you can set the child's card up, seperate from yours with x amount of money, and tell them, this is all you get for the week, when it's gone, it's gone, and just not add anymore to it. This would be better done with traveler's checks, in my opinion, then you don't have to worry about anything over the limit being billed to your credit card. (I'm not really sure how it would work using a credit card, we used traveler's checks on our trip, so maybe someone else with experience can help ya out there). They deduct every purchase on-board on the card, nothing is payed for with cash (except in the casino, but children aren't allowed there). I hope this helps, and I hope I haven't confused ya. Limits on the cards can be done, in my opinion, it would just be easier to set the limits with traveler's checks:)

Also be aware (I don't know if your kids are still into arcades) that there are token machines that allow $5 a day to be charged to a child's Sail and Sign card.

We simply told our boys they were not allowed to do it. Basically, if you want to cruise, you follow our rules. And of course, they did not...because I told them they were not allowed.

My 3 teen girls are very good at not putting charges on their S&S card, well all except for 1 who has a boyfriend and in the past has decide to make very expensive ship to shore calls to him, because of the huge bill she runs up we now go directly to the pursers deck and put a "do not charge" on her card so really all it becomes is a cabin key and ID to get on and off the ship. If she wants to buy something, i put in on my S&S card.

On our last cruise my other 2 DD's never put 1 cent on their cards, all there really is for them to buy on the ship is soda and maybe something in the gift shop, the arcade takes cash.
