immdc Posted July 13, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2004 I was wondering if anyone has sailed on ncl pride of aloha (or the sky as it was formerly known), in a cabin for 5. I booked the POA for August of next year and will be travelling with my husband and 3 children. Am I crazy? The dimensions of the room are about 150 square feet. Will there be enough room for our clothing? I really don't want to spend the money on a second room if at all possible but the close quarters may warrant it. Thanks for your input. Zeno Posted July 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2004 Well I was on the POA when it was the Sky. We were 3 in a BC balcony cabin. It was OK but certainly not roomy - especially when the sofabed was made up. To me 5 sounds awfully crowded. Also there is not a lot of storage space. We left some of our things in our suitcases under the beds. It worked out fine for us but we really did not spend a lot of time in the cabin and 2 of us packed lightly. Hope this helps. serene56 Posted July 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2004 May I ask what is the rpice difference from the 1st passenger compared to the 3rd? I would get a cabin that is a true quad--one with 4 beds. (not a sofa bed. There is more room to move.
Zeno Posted July 14, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2004 Re: Pricing: Passengers one and two pay a "normal" rate (which may be full fare or discounted depending on what type of deal you get). Passengers 3,4,5 pay substantially less. I suggest checking out the NCL website http://www.ncl.com "Voyages and Pricing" "Pretend" to select a cruise (entering the number of pax in one room) - it will give you a nice breakdown of the pricing. Re: quad cabins - bear in mind some quad cabins on POA(Sky) have the usual twin beds, one overhead pulldown berth and and one sofa bed. The NCL website is also useful for finding out cabin configurations. Click on the cabin you want and it will list such things as the bed situation. I agree with Serene56 that a "traditional" quad (2 uppers and 2 lowers) would give you more moving around room. I am just not sure how many of those are available on the POA(Sky). Whatever you decide - I hope it works for you. As I said previously we did fine with 3 adults in a cabin.
serene56 Posted July 14, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2004 You do not get a price break for the 3rd and 4th if you book 2 cabins..they will pay full price also.

TexEm Posted July 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 25, 2004 My mom, sister and I were on the Sky through the Panama Canal last fall, we had a balcony room and an interior. There wasn't much closet space or drawer space, and there were just 2 of us in the balcony cabin. The Sky was well-known for having small cabins and bad storage space (due to it originally being a Costa ship and being bought by NCL when it was too late to change cabin sizes/configuration). We, too, kept a lot of stuff in our luggage under the beds, but that was a real hassle at times, even with just 2 of us. My mom was in the interior cabin by herself and felt it was adequate for one person. The closets in both our cabins were along the entryway into the bed area, and opening into that same "hallway" was the bathroom door, and it got tight at times if someone was near the closet, and someone was going in or out of the bathroom or out the cabin door. I can't picture 5 people even 2 adults 3 kids fitting into one cabin on Sky/POA, so I'd opt for 2 cabins or a family suite/minisuite if at all possible. How old are your kids? (How well does everyone get along now?) If your kids are younger, I'd think you'd at times be spending more time in your cabin than 5 adults who are going to the shows, the casino, etc., rather than being in their cabin. The other problem you'll have is the bathroom space--the Sky had average bathroom space for a cruiseship, but it's really tight. One sink, one toilet, one shower (I guess you could shower little ones all at once!) Not much space to store toiletries. My husband and kids and I were in a 4 person obstructed view cabin on Dawn Princess a few years back when our kids were both 10 or 11, and I spent much of my time straightening up the room so we could move around in it!! Just some thoughts...hope it works out well whatever you decide to do. BTW what we do now is get a balcony cabin and put the kids across the hall in an interior--it's just about the same price as putting them in with us. That way we get more storage space and 2 bathrooms. Good luck.
