the ones on board are only for use in case of on board accidents/medical problems, not for regular use by cruisers. you need to bring your own. if it had a battery, they have rules about what type of battery is allowed on the ships. if the wheelchair doesn't fold it, she would have to be in a handicap room.

a folding wheelchair is allowed in any room. my FIL put up a fight about taking one, said he didn't need it. i was concerned about his balance if the ship got rocky. SIL got him one at a yard sale for $25. he found he needed it, the NCL Star is big and very long. he tired just walking to the restaurants. it worked great.

thank you all for your responses... it does fold..

she only needs it for walking long distances and things.. not all the time so i dont think we would need a handicap room, i would much rather save that for someone who is in a wheelchair all the time, thank you all again

that's the way we felt with my FIL. he was in a inside room across the hall from us. getting to the casinos was easy for him, just down the elevator and around the corner. but to get to the main dining, it was a long walk. if he walked there, he was too tired to walk back. having a folding wheelchair was great. everyone made room for it when we didn't need it.

when i noticed that the bathrooms (on the star) had grips and bars, i wasn't worried about him losing his balance in the bathroom. even though it wasn't a handicap room. he just had to remember to lift his feet going through the doors.
