Taking a Blackberry on board?

I'm very tech-challenged, so this could be a stupid question, but if you take your Blackberry with you, can you access e-mail wherever there's a signal? Do you have to pay internet charges?

I took my Blackberry on a recent Med. cruise. I had to call my cell phone server before leaving and sign up for international service.

We'll be in Hawaii, so international service won't be an issue. Were you able to access your email without paying shipboard internet charges?

Actually I didn't try email. I only used text messaging. No internet charge. Call your server, they can tell you.

We have been on the Island Princess' RT Hawaii from Los Angeles. My husband uses a Blackberry. You will NOT be able to connect your Blackberry to the SHIP's internet service. However, it will work in any port where your carrier has both telecom and data service. Not all carriers provide data service.

 

If this helps, my husband's service provider is T-Mobile and we had both voice/data service in all ports in Hawaii.

Just got back from Caribbean today and when we were in US ports we had cell service and hubby got his e-mail without any issues. You should be just fine since you'll be in US.
