Found ring in safe

we just got off the triumpm 10/21 and on the 2nd night I found a camarea in the Rome showroom I went to turn it in at the pursers desk and she grabbed it from me and said I'll put it in the lost and found. Fortunately I had looked inside and the sign and sail card was in the case. I took the camera back and went back tothe desk in the morning and had them call the persons room while I was there. I just got the feeling that everything is thrown in a box under the desk for first come first serve

Speaking of finding things, I found a wallet in our safe and gave it to the front desk. Never thought about it again, feeling that I had done the, politically correct, right thing.

Upon waiting for clearance off a ship in Hawaii, I had mistakenly picked up the ladies handbag next to me and heard "Hey lady, you got my bag!!"

Oh, I blushed so hard. My family laughs about it periodically. Never again, have I carried a black purse. LOL:o

some, not all, of you have exhibited character and lack of integrity that to me would be a stumbling block. Bird did what she thought was best. Instead of encouraging her and gently directing her on what she needed to do, you exhibited to her WHY only 1-2% of cruisers come on to these boardsintended to bless the owner of the ring.:)

Loved that quote - Agree that PO did what she thought was right. If she was dishonest & wanted to keep it she wouldn't have even bothered to mention it here. This isn't like settling an estate & having to prove you tried to find a particular party!

I know someone who works in a transportation industry & says anything of value that is left behind & turned in almost never makes it to the rightful owner. Quite a shame. I would contact Carnvial & ask if someone contacts them please provide an address & I would send it directly to the person.

I found a very heavy gold chain in the hall on one of our past cruises. I went to the purser's desk, left my name & cabin # & asked that when the person comes to report a gold chain lost, have the purser to call me with a description of the reported item. This elminated anyone standing near me at the desk claiming "Oh, that was mine" when in fact it wasn't (sounds crazy - happened to me once at a job I worked at where I gave out the item to the "owner" & the rightful owner showed up shortly after proving their claim - I almost got fired for someone else's dishonestly). With the chain...the person did show up & was so thrilled because it had sentimental value. PO situation different as person left ship so contacting Carnival should rectify that. And for those who doubted the POs honesty will probably think the reason for wanting contact with the owner is for a reward - speaking personally, I never accept even a drink as reward (which the chain owner did offer) - Firm believer in doing right because it IS right.

To drjpreston ~ I don't know many who even know where the Pioneer Museum is! It really is a fabulous museum to visit and a nice treasure in the middle-of-nowhere on the prairie. We traveled back and forth between Oklahoma and South Dakota often about 20 years ago, and it was a great stop-over. I somehow think it'd look quite different in a blizzard! BTW... you didn't happen to lose a ring there, did you?;)

I do have fond memories of the Pioneer Village. I am not sure if it was just the museum or the memories of time spend with five restless children and wife in the snow storm. Hope to go back again someday.

I did not loose a ring. I do have a habit of loosing cameras on cruises however. The one I mention in a earlier post I think I left at table in Dinning room. I cannot be sure, I just know it was my fault. At least that is what DW says.

On our first cruise I was getting off glass bottom boat in Cabo and left camera in boat while I used video to record my wife getting off. We walk a short distance and remembered it and went back. Gone. Boat captain thought a passenger probably took it. After arriving home we viewed the video and found I had recorded the boat captain placing his coat over the camera and dragging it behind his back. We laugh about it now. Don’t miss the camera but do wish we had the pictures that was in it of our first cruise. We went back to Cabo and found the captain a few years later. I had forgotten to take the video but found and approached captain with a blank video. Enjoyed giving him a rough time. On walking away I approached a policeman and said hi without mentioning the incident. I did point in the direction of captain and held up the video. The captain took off running. I laughed and felt I had gotten even. I might have done more if I had brought the actual video.

My DW seldom lets me play with electronic toys anymore when traveling.

I probably would NOT hvae turned it in to the purser's desk and would have contacted Carnival with my information and that I found a ring in the safe should anyone inquire as to the loss and I would send that to the person or they could contact me.

DUring all my cruises, I've found the purser's desk to lack in customer service, effieciency and knowledge...and they accomplish all their ineptitude with aloofness! NOw I do feel for them when they deal with aggravating and complaining petty passengers, but they should be able to deal with others with some professionalism. I've found the purser's desk to be the main area where Carnival needs marked improvement. I try to avoid them at all costs which is the impression that I believe they try to instill in the passengers: one of avoidance.

OK

Flame me if you want , but here is my take on this.

This ring was found in the safe of cabin 5135 on The Carnival Spirit. It kind of narrows the playing field down a bit wouldn't you think????????

Maybe I grew up watching too many Columbo reruns , but the ring probably belongs to THE PERSON WHO HAD THAT CABIN ON THE CRUISE BEFORE YOU.

You bring it two the pursers desk tell them it was found in your cabins safe. Its not that hard for them to look up who the last people were in your cabin from their manifest.

Its not like you found it under a chair on the Lido deck, or in a aisle in the showroom or casino where any one of a couple thousand people could have dropped it.

It does sound very easy and practical...but in the grand scheme of things, I don't know if Carnival will go out searching for the true owner. In a perfect world they would and everyone would be happy. But already have plenty to do with complaining passengers, etc. I could be wrong, but I don't see that scenario happening. But then again, who knows?!:)

They seeked me out, twice... at home, after my cruise. So yes, they do go through some effort to find the owners... We also had a CC member lose a camera last year... Carnival found them. It happens all the time.

Like I said, I could be wrong....and I was. My apologies. I was assuming, and you know what they say about doing that...!

Well I'm going to have to chime in here. I'm sure for the most part the cruiselines are pretty good about contacting people who's item's are left in their cabins....but I will have to add that we had a bad experience with the pursers desk.

During our muster drill in one of lounges on the Spirit, my husband left his sunglasses sitting on the table. He went back to retrieve them and by that time they were gone. A couple hours later we happened to run into our tablemates at the muster drill and they said that they noticed we had left the sunglasses on the table and they took them to the pursers to turn into the lost and found. We went to the pursers to check, and they pulled out a huge box full of sunglasses and said check in here. Well they were not in the box...........the lady at the desk asked us what kind they were and when we told her Maui Jims. she laughed and said "those kind of glasses are never turned in".

I know some will say maybe the other couple that found them did not turn them in.......well they are the ones that approached us about it.....we did not tell them.....so I truely believe they turned them in.

Also if anyone needs some cheap sunglasses, just go to the pursers and tell them you lost yours and they will let you go thru the box.....:(

Needless to say that put a bitter taste in my mouth with the pursers desk.

good for you to try and find the owner. I lost a very pretty diamond one of Mariner of the Seas and called the RCCL and no one bothered to turn my in or post online as far as I have seen so far. Please try to find the owner because it may have memories for them.:(

I would have found that couple and told them that you went to the pursers desk and told them what was said! One way or another I would have TRIED to find out who was lying! That is Sad!!! Better luck next time!

I am new to these boards and, therefore, am extremely surprised to find that my integrity has been so attacked at what I thought was a good deed. I had multiple dealings with the purser's desk during our cruise. Each time, without fail, the answers were inadequate, rude and the crew showed extreme disorganization. Upon cleaning out the safe before we disembarked, we found the ring. It was an HONEST decision NOT to turn it in to the Purser's Desk where I knew it would NEVER make it to its owner and had hoped that someone somewhere might know who might have lost it. If the owner had contacted the cruise line, why didn't the crew check the safe earlier???? I would never INTENTIONALLY take something that was not mine. I thought I was being helpful.

birdsfly, don't feel bad! Some of these people are used to flaming others, my sister has been on these boards for over a year and kept trying to get me to do the same and I finally did after reading some post the last 4-5 weeks. I think you did the right thing and as I would have done if I would have had the same problems you had! And please remember, it is OK for some to curse at others, call people names, and etc. So only a few get banned on here! There are a few that should have been banned but have not! I do think you should call the cruise line and tell all the info and see if they can call the people before you and have them identify the ring. Then you can determine if they are honest also! Thanks again for being honest!!!

I'm sorry I did not mention that the other couple DID come with us to the pursers desk. By that time there was another person working behind the desk. The other couple did not get the name of the girl but did describe her. Well needless to say....no one knows anything.

So I'm not so sure if I found something of value, that I would actually turn it in. I think maybe I would let the pursers desk know and that they could contact me.

I would not send the ring but a letter stating you found something in the safe, include room number and date of sailing. They can notify you if someone is looking for it or they could call shomever had the room prior and ask if they lost something. I have done this when I find something then I know the owner gets it not the purser or store clerk. I think people need to stop bashing the OP and understand she wants to get it back to the rightful owner.

Yes, thank goodness another that has good commen sense!!!

Thank you:)

I Agree, I wouldn't Trust The people at the Pursers desk if I found something either. We all have heard stories about people leaving things in safe and never getting them returned.

So GET OFF THE OP for trying to make sure it does get returned and I am sure they have already Called Carnival to let them know.

Dam some of you people need to look at the bigger picture before rushing on Judging this person's actions.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!Well Said!!!:)

Exactly.... I don't know you or your integrity.... And while you honestly may think you did the right thing, it should have been left with the pursers desk or certified mail to Carnival. The person who lost it most likely doesn't have anything to do with Cruise Critic and will never see your post. They or I would never think to look on the internet to see about something I lost.... I would be checking with Carnival....

A year ago a person did the same thing.... Never found (at last check) the owner..... It's just not right to take something that doesn't belong to you.... just my thoughts....

Did you read birdsfly first post on this? The reason why they did not turn it in to the desk is because they felt like somone from the desk stole their sun glasses:confused: . And if that would have happen to me and the ring was of any value at all how do any of you know that the same would not have happen to the ring? Another item is gone!!!

The only thing I ever found on a ship was....the time to kick back, relax and enjoy myself. Perhaps the "owner" of the ring purposely left the ring behind. Or maybe it was intentionally planted by a CC person looking to start trouble on the message boards ;)

You are confusing the OP (birdsfly) with rvrgirl, who told the story about losing the sun glasses. Two different posters.
