tendering at port?? Legend

Hi, I am new to cruising and our first cruise is ont he Legend 9/4. I am concerned about the boat tendering in a port. Can anyone explain exactly what this is and if it is easy or a difficult thing to do. Thanks.

It happens all the time when the port is to shallow for the ship to come in all the way to the dock. Cruise ships are HUGE, so some ports are just to shallow so the ship has to park out where the water is deep enough. They also have to do this when there are too many cruise ships in the port, they only have room for so many to park, this happens ALL the time in the Juneau port. They just send smaller boats (small like they fit 60 people or more) over to pick everyone up and take them to shore, it takes a bit longer to disembark but they have a good system so I wouldn't worry at all. :)

Depending on the port it can sometimes be a hassle. The tendering time will cut into your time in port as they bring people back and forth in small groups depending on the size and the number of tenders they are utilizing.

 

People who have booked shore excursions usually get off first. Those just getting off with no specific meet times, will have to wait for the others to get tendered before it's their turn.

 

In choppy seas it can get a little dicey, but for the most part it's uneventful.

If the weather is really bad, they will not risk tendering and cancel that stop altogether or change itinerary.
