taxi in Grand Cayman

We would like to take a taxi in Grand Cayman and see the island. Has anyone done this? Where is the best place to find a taxi and about how much would the fare be?

You'd probably be better renting a car and driving around (it's very safe), or do an island tour (they tend to stay in the George Town/Hell/turtle farm area) through one of the local tour companies (we used Captain Marvin's for our stingray tour, and I believe they also do island tours). We did see the trolley over on the other side (toward Smith's Cove), but I don't know exactly where they go or how you reserve the trolley ride.

 

The cabs are lined up in the port area, but they charge per person, not by the cab. I would think it would be very expensive to have one show you the island.

 

I don't know if you been to GC before, but it's not like most Caribbean islands. It's like the Beverly Hills of the Caribbean. Things are expensive...but it's a great island to get out and explore on your own. You can't do that (safely) on most islands.

 

Our favorite part of the island was the East End. It's more "islandy" than George Town.
