Victory Questions

Just got my documents for my 4 day cruise to Canada on August 19th and I had a few questions. Is there a formal night? If so, is there an alternative restaurant that you can go to that is casual that night? Are you restricted from going to other parts of the ship. We would like to pack "light" so we can carry our bags off ourselves and didn't want to bring formal clothes. Also, want to go off on our own in Halifax. Does anyone have any suggestions - alternative tours not with the cruiseline or places we should visit? Have been to Peggy's Cove and although beautiful, would enjoy seeing something different. Thanks for the help!

one formal night and the alternative is the buffet on lido deck.In halifax we found a grocery store behind the railroad station and walked there. Good candy that you cant get in the states. The walk is nice and at the end of the boardwalk is a casino/hotel. Nice place.

The Victory boasts multiple dining options that are casual on formal night, anything from Pizza to a fabulous buffet.

 

Still, they put on quite a show for formal night that I wouldn't want to miss! I's also bet that might be lobster night on your cruise, a real highlight.

Lots of people also get changed after dinner. On Carnival you are not restricted to any area because you arent dressed. You can go in the Casino or the show lounge and will see everything from shorts to ball gowns.

 

(the formal night is the Lobster night- you can only get that in the dining room. Its not available in the buffet or room service.

I just returned from a six night cruise on the Victory and I certainly hope you have better luck then we did with the weather. It was cold, rainy, and foggy for just about the entire trip. The sun did come out for about 2 hours on St. John's but that was about it?

 

There is a formal night, the second night out and that was lobster night. As you were told there are other options for dining if you want to skip the formal.

 

I'm curious as to how your experience will be, because I found the ship very disappointing. I just cruised the Legend in March and it was wonderful and I expected a similar experience aboard the Victory and it just wasn't. The food was not good, from black spots in the potatos to a curdeled creme brulee they were a lot of problems food wise. The morning staff in the dining room was downright surly. To be fair when I did complain an attempt was made to fix the problem, but after so many I just didn't want to any more. I've been reading the boards this morning to see how other's experience aboard the ship was and everyone seems to give it great reviews.

 

On our last night out I had an interesting conversation with a waitress who brought us room service. She was charming and very open and told us the problems with the staff came from within. It seems that upper echelon staff looked down on everyone else so there was no camaderie among the staff and she felt all the problems stemed from that.

How did you do a 6 night, it only does 4 and 5 nights. The trip to canada is always iffy as far as the weather is concerend. I went twice in June and the first time around it was beautifull at both ports, the second was all rain and fog. I did not notice any problems with service, and the food was always good, not great, but good. Room service left a lot to be desired, always took more than 20 minutes. Ship was clean and well kept and skippy was very entertaining. I always look at this intenarary as a quick getaway with lots of R and R. I know if i want sun and fun to head south.

I'm betting if you are cruising to Canada in the next week (maybe longer) or so you will see fog, fog and more fog... sorry about the weather, we're not too crazy about it here in Maine either!! We live on and island and I feel like I am in a tomb, slowly mildew-ing! I am ready for the Carribean...question is..can I wait 'til March!!

Did a CTN on the Victory with my DD in June and found everything, but the weather to be fantastic. We had fog for almost 20 hours. Hope you have a wonderful time.
