Tampa beaches

There really isnt a good beach in Tampa. The only major beach is on the Causeway. Its ok, but nothing spectacular, just sand and water and its on the bay, not the gulf. Most of Tampas waterfront is developed or hard to get to.

To get a good beach, you have to go across the bay to the Pinellas side of the area. http://www.floridasbeach.com/bch_nat/topbeaches.aspx is a good site that lists 3 of the top beaches in Pinellas. Ft DeSoto has great beaches, walking/biking trails and the fort. I havent been to Caledisi. Clearwater has a good beach and lots of shops and restaurants. If you want to go just to go to the beach and be alone, I would say Ft Desoto is the best choice. About 30 mins down the Interstate from the airport/Westshore area.
