Rhapsody dry dock

Coxswain: I remember you from way back. You used to post with all of us on a Brilliance or Northern Europe thread. If I remember correctly, you are a Coxswain for pilot boats out of Belfast. Some of the originals that you may remember are on The Energizer Bunny thread in Floataway Lounge....stop by. Have a Merry Christmas.

We are doing the Aloha to Rhapsody cruise in Sept and were wondering what they would do to the Rhapsody when she goes to dry dock later in 07? Concerige lounge would be great!

Lexi

From what I've read on previous threads, she's getting new bedding, painting the hull, redoing the Windjammer, refinishing all the wooden floors.

The new Windjammer should be great. I've also read that there will not be a Concierge Lounge. Only on Radiance/Voyager/Freedom class, that said they did put on the Enchantment when they stretched it. When Voyager replaces Rhapsody in December/07, we'll have a CL then. We'll be on Rhapsody again at the end of Feb after the dry dock, so we are looking forward to the new bedding.

I think for the Asian market, the plans had been to increase the size of the casino, but I'm not sure when that's being done.

I don't know about Rhapsody, but they did turn the card room on the Splendour into a Concierge Lounge, so????? What will they be doing to the Windjammer? Can't wait to see her, we will be on her last hurrah out of Galveston through the Panama Canal. I am so bummed she's leaving. And yes I know that we are getting the Voyager, but I like the smaller ship.

How long is the Voyager suppose to be in Galveston? I heard only 1 season. I wonder why the exodus from Galveston....first The Grand, then Rhapsody, and then if Voyager only stays for one season....That leaves only Carnival.

DH, DD and I sailed The Grand in Nov and a crew member told us that there is rumor that Princess will be back in Texas but at the new Houston terminal in two yrs when it is completed.

I'm not sure. But it is wierd that Galveston will go from 1 full-time--ROS & 1 part-time--Splendour, to just 1 VOS. And if you look at the itineraries, there is a period of time, altho it is short--Sept-Oct-Nov-DEc 2007, where currently there is NO SHIP going out of Galveston. Course right now VOS is just scheduled Dec 07 to April 08 out of Galveston, but the schedules past the are not out yet, so we shall see. Someone wrote on the board that the rumor is a Radiance class will come in, but who knows, certainly not me. I just can't believe that there will be 4 months without a RCCL ship out of GAlveston, seems not to be a very good business move to me, IMHO.

I hadn't heard the rumor about a Radiance class coming to Galveston. I did hear from a friend who was just on the Grandeur that she was told that a ship would be coming to Galveston to alternate Galveston to the West Coast and West Coast back to Galveston going through the canal with stops in the Mexican Riviera. (If she told me where on the West Coast, I don't remember) No info on what ship or when. If it's true and it's a Radiance class, that would be wonderful!

We know it won't be Voyager since it won't fit through the Panama Canal.

I don't know if anyone has posted this before since I haven't been on the boards much lately.

I read the RAdiance class runmor here on the threads somewhere. The PC stuff would be great, I think.

But, I have heard from various crew members that the discounting and low onboard revenues have RCI re-tihinking the Galveston/Texas market.

Too bad, we miss Galaxy, will be on Rhapsody two more times before she leaves and guess it will mean flying to San Juan to get back on Galaxy.

We also heard on The Grand in Nov that one of the reason PCL is pulling out of the Texas market is low shipboard revenues, even though the ship sails full all the time....Something about East Coast departures produce much higher ship revenues.

What is a Radiance class ship? Whatever it is....a sailing out of TX to the PC would be great.

Personally, I expect the new Bayport Terminal in Houston (due to open in 2007) has a lot to do with this. RCI are probably playing Galveston off against Houston to see who will cut them the better long-term deal.

I sure hope you're right. We'll be very disappointed not having an RCI ship here. The revenue's can't be all that bad if they're bringing Voyager in. It would make more sense to bring Grandeur over since it's not doing great in Nola. That said, I'm glad that Voyager is coming here. Looking forward to having a Concierge Lounge close to home!

our head waiter on the Voyager Dec 9 told us that crew love Galveston because they ar etipped so well. That's what he said, don't know what he based that on.

The crew really do love the Galveston base that's for sure. I guess it's our warm southern attitude! We were onboard at the end of October and the crew were sad about leaving. We go again in February. Hate to miss out on the Key West stop when Voyager comes, but you take the good with the bad!
