Table For Two ?

Has anyone been denied a table for two simply because there were none available or requested too late? Are tables for two given on a first come first served basis? We have been booked 9 months in advance for a cruise in April 2007 on the Noordam early seating upper level but cannot get a confirmation. Just wondering !

Thanks

HAL usually states that table size is a "request" only and that while they may confirm you for a certain dining time, you don't know your specific table assignment until you board.

We usually request a table for six and generally we get it.....however, once we were seated at a table for eight and once we were assigned a table for four. On both occasions we had no problems with our table.

I think they do try to give you what you want, but if a lot of people want the same thing, then obviously they can't accommodate everyone. The fact that you have booked so far in advance should weigh heavily in your favor.

Once you get onboard, go to the dining room and see what table you have been assigned. If you don't get a table for two, talk to the maitre'd and see whether it is possible to make a change.

We just got back from a Veendam cruise and had requested a table for six and got a table for four. The first night the compatible couple that sat with us told us that they were on a list for an earlier seating (we had a late seating at 8pm). The next night we were assigned table mates (ladies) who were in their 30s and constantly complained about HAL and the lack of activities for singles....they did not return (thankfully). The last diner to sit with us was an elderly woman traveling alone....she had just lost a dear companion and still was in mourning.....obviously, though we empathized with her, it was not an uplifting experience....next time we will seek that table for two and if we meet some compatible individuals on the ship ....perhaps we will see if we can move to a table with them.

Thanks everyone. Thiis will be our second cruise with Holland America and the first was about 6 years ago on the old Noordam with another couple. All our previous 15 cruises have been with other cruise lines and the four times we requested a table for two was no problem except once when we found ourselves at a table for 8 but had it changed for a table for two with no problem.
