FcapAcap Posted January 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2007 I'm taking a cruise in April. and will be in St Martin from 8 am- 6:00pm This is my plan -please tell me if it will work/fit in that time frame. Looking to get off the ship ASAP and take a cab to orient beach. Stay there until around 12:30- 1:00 then head to maho beach via cab to view the planes. (I read that from 12-3 is prime plane time) Then take cab back to ship. How long does it take to get to Maho from Orient? What time would i have to leave Maho to get back to the ship? What places to eat which are walking distance from the beach or on the beach would you reccommend? I Read that cabs are easy to get at orient is it the same for Maho? Thanks
The Big Booper Posted January 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2007 Your plan will work as long as you allow a safety factor. There is no problem getting from the pier to Orient in the morning 20-25 minutes. There are many places to hang out and your choice should include the factor that the Club O people wander up and down the entire beach, not just their part at the south end of the beach, so if that bothers you stay at the middle near Kon Tiki or Bikini. Here is Ed's panorama of Orient Beach which will help you understand the layout. http://home.carolina.rr.com/photos2005/LargeOrientPanorama.htm There will be plenty of cabs at Orient to take you to Maho. This will be messier as the choices are 1) go up to the North end and loop down the West Coast Road, bypassing Marigot and it's bad traffic mess along the harbor road and then to Maho or 2) going South towards the pier and cutting across the island thru the Simpson mess. Let the cabbie call it. Allow 50 minutes for this part of the trip, there can be traffic jams on SXM. Here is a schedule, from KAL, of the Jets landing. http://www.bywindkal.com/SXMJets.html If you eat at Maho, eat at the Sunset Beach Bar which is alongside the airport glide path, lots of people take their pictures from here and there is always the fact that at Sunset, TWDFF:D If your ship leaves at 6 PM then the gangway is pulled at 5:30 PM and you have to allow 60 minutes, MINIMUM, to get from Maho to the pier in the afternoon thanks to traffic and opening drawbridges. And then 5-10 minutes to walk from the taxi drop-off to the gangway. Here are the official taxi rates from the Taxi Association. http://www.taxisxm.com/rate.htm Any more questions?
