HAWKCRUISER Posted January 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2007 At the last minute (56Days) we have decided to go on a cruise. My wifes BC and DL have different last names. Do you have to also have a copy of your marriage license. What is required of kids 13,10, and 7. We are looking into passports but are unsure if we have enough time without paying the extra fees. Cotton Posted January 15, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2007 All cruiselines, as well as gov't agencies, realize that most females have a different last name from the one on their b/c.;) That is not a problem. No marriage license needed. Just make sure her b/c is a certified state-issued one. Children under 16 do not need an ID if traveling w/their parents. They do, however, need their certified state-issued b/c. As far as passports, you will need them at this time if something happens and you need to fly back into the USA. HawaiiCruisers Posted January 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2007 suggest the passport is the safest way to go. If you need a passport in a hurry http://clia.passportexpress.com/ is a starting point. In todays world I would not risk traveling outside the U.S.A. without a passport. breenw Posted January 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2007 You'll be just fine with the state certified birth certificates. Don't pay the extra right now to get expedited passports.
jakieemma Posted January 16, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2007 We are a family of 5 w/o passports. No need to get them right now. Don't worry about having a problem in another country. Just bring ID's with you when you leave the ship...protect the ID's at any cost !!!
Lorij91 Posted January 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2007 Here is the information posted on RCI's website US Citizen Passport Requirement Air Travel Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport to enter (or re-enter) the United States. U.S. lawful permanent residents will continue to be able to use their Alien Registration Card (Form I-551) issued by the Department of Homeland Security or other valid evidence of permanent residence status to apply for entry to the United States. Cruise Travel As early as January 1, 2008, subject to U.S. Government amendment, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. Until that time, the following travel document requirements apply: International Travel A valid passport is required; visas are required where they apply. This includes Europe, Asia, Central and South America.Domestic Travel For domestic travel which includes: the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico, a passport (valid or expired) is highly recommended. In the absence of a passport, a birth certificate (original or a certified copy), plus a picture ID card issued by a federal, state or local government agency is required. A voter registration card or Social Security Card are not considered to be proof of citizenship. Children under 16 years of age do not require a picture ID. OUR RECOMMENDATION Royal Caribbean International strongly recommends that all guests travel with a valid passport during their cruise. This greatly assists guests who may need to fly out of the United States to meet their ship at the next available port should they miss their scheduled embarkation in a U.S. port; guests entering the U.S. at the end of their cruise; and guests needing to fly to the U.S. before their cruise ends, because of medical, family, personal or business emergencies, missing a ship's departure from a port of call, involuntary disembarkation from a ship due to misconduct, or other reasons. Guests who cruise just prior to or after January 23, 2007, who need to fly to the United States before their cruise ends will likely experience significant delays and complications related to booking airline tickets and entering the United States if they do not have a valid U.S. passport with them. For additional passport information visit www.travel.state.gov. Or if you prefer, contact Passport Express at www.passportservices.com/rci for applications and assistance. eyzwdeshut Posted January 16, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 16, 2007 I read on another thread (that i can't find) how important it was for the name on the cruise docs to match the name on the ID used. I went ahead & got my passport redone for that reason (married name now). Don't know what names you have used, but wanted to throw that out there. If your wife is the only one in question, she could still get a passport. I expedited mine & got it in less than 2 weeks... same with my DH. LauraJeremy Posted February 7, 2007 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2007 I wouldnt go with what previous poster stated about NOT needing a marriage license---it really depends on who is looking at your ticket and documents---it took me 4 years of marriage to finally change my license to my married name and I was asked AT LEAST 75% of the time for a marriage license--so i say be safe and carry it just in case along with picture id of course
serene56 Posted February 7, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2007 the reason you dont need to take the marriage license to checkin for the cruise is because you needed to prove proof of name change for a drivers license. the only thing you need is the state issued birth certificate and a drivers license. A passport is highly recommened.. only because if you got stuck in one of the ports coz youmissed the ship-- youwont be able to get home since youdont have the passport. so-- with that-- dont miss the ship
